HIV has no symptoms. you must go to the doc and get a blood test done to show whether or not you have been infected. it can also lay dormant for years before converting to AIDS...

Flu-like sypmtoms, fever, aching muscles, fatigue, swollen lymph glands in your neck, groin, etc. headache, lasts a few days. maybe longer. If you have been exposed and know you have, get checked. If you're not sure, and flu is going around then maybe it's just a virus. However, if you are a homosexual male and have had unprotected sex and had any bleeding from you rectum after, or any open wounds, even your gums or dental work, and have been in contact with seminal fluids of one person on more than one occassion, even once, take a home test. You can get one at the pharmacy over the counter and it is strictly confidential. They give you a number to call to get your results. Some people will not exhibit these symptoms, but if you have them , it's from 6 weeks to 3 months after exposure. However, this disease is not as common in heterosexual women, unless they are very promiscuios, have anal sex, are iv drug users sharing needles, etc. Also, herpes can be a major factor in contracting the virus. You have to remember, there has to be a tear or break in the skin for the virus to enter. Women have babies vaginally and don't damage the vaginal walls. It's thick for this reason. The rectum is a whole new factor to consider. It's walls are thinner and tear easily. But if I were you and I was worried, I'd just bite the bullet and get tested. You can't fix a problem if you don't know it exists until something starts giong wrong.

On the contrary to a post below, heterosexual woman are the number 2 leaders for contracting HIV after homosexual men. And women are quickly becoming more infected with HIV.
Heterosexual woman are more easily infected because of the invasiveness of sex. Seman is the second highest concentrated body fluid after blood with HIV. Although vaginal walls are tough and wouldn't necessarily tear during intercouse, the vagina is a mucas membrane and absorbes the fluid around it. Seman (even pre-ejaculatory) in the vagina makes the woman very susceptible to infection, it doesn't have to be blood bourne. That is why a condom in essential.
Homosexual men are a bit more susceptable because of the tearing in the rectum during anal sex. leaving open wounds for the seman to settle in. However, the homosexual community is very aware of their risks and usually take the necessary precautions where as heterosexual females don't always understand the risks and don't.

You can have HIV for 10 yrs and not know it, by the time you feel symptoms, you would probably be on your deathbed because at the time of getting symptoms, you would probably have full blown AIDS, i am trying to have a baby and so i got tested.. I was horrified, but it was negative and it put me at ease. with the lifestyle i used to lead, i could've very well had it, but thank God i don't. Listen, don't be scared, it's better to know, than not to know, look at Magic Johnson, how long has he been alive since he came out with the news that he had AIDS? Get tested , and be sure and don't be worried, either way, AIDS does not have to be a death sentence. :)

Swollen lymphs the ones on the neck and under the armpitts are the most palpable ones. Flu like symptoms but mostly there aren´t any symptoms that´s why people notice that something is wrong about 10 years afeter they first got infected. That´s why it´s important to get tested if you have any suspicions.
