It would only be cool if you all had anal sex before going to sleep. And make sure the dog isn't left out.

Ummm....you're kidding right? The bonding at night should be between you and your wife. I'm actually kind of surprised to hear this question coming from a MAN! You guys are usually the ones screaming about not getting enough sex! It's especially not a good idea since you have teenage daughters! They are going through physical changes right now and have a fierce need for privacy. I would think this would be extremely awkward for them.
If you wish for your family to have this "frontier life" kind of experience maybe you could rent a rural cabin in the mountains for a week and bond over a family vacation.
Camping out in the den for the whole winter? Seems a little extreme to me. Personally, I wouldn't want to try it.

Not so much honey. Times have changed since log cabin days and unless you plan on removing the tv's, computers and game counsoles, you can kiss your pipe dream of family togetherness goodbye. Teenagers don't want to hang around their parents, parents will eventually want some "alone" time and the eleven year old is going to be grossed out with all the forced bonding. If you want to bond, start simple...eat dinner each night as a family. Take the time to listen to each other and share each other's day. I know it sounds corny, but I'm a mother of five, and in all my years as a wife and mother, dinner has always been on the table at 5:30, our children are the closest things to us and not only can I tell you each of my children's favorite hang ups, I also get to hear about their everyday dramas and have real insight as to what is going on in their lives. It's done more than keep us together...it's kept us a close knit family who function as a whole and will work together through anything.
I wish you luck honey!

No I dont think that would be a good idea. In this day and time everyone needs their space even a baby dont want people in their face all the time and touching them. They soon get aggrivated. I think it would be good for the winter to maybe hang out and drink hot chocolate or something in the den before bed but actually sleeping together wont be very good. Plus your teenage girls wont want to be around their 11 year old brother while they sleep. Im pretty sure you and your wife will want to have your private time together at night and that is impossible to do with kids around. So leave it like it is bed maybe just a little family time before bed.

No! First of all, you and your wife need your privacy, and your kids need theirs. Your children and not small anymore, they are all either in their teens or nearing them soon. Kids that age need their privacy and should be in a quiet room to think and relax before bedtime. Don't get me wrong, having a sleep-over kind of night where you stay up telling stories, playing games and enjoying a midnight fire with the dog included is a great idea, and my hat is tipped to you for thinking of that. Most Dad's are not that creative when it comes to family time ideas. I think it's a wonderful thing to do every once in a while, but not as an every night thing. Too much of a good thing is not good in this case. My guess is your family would agree.

Lets see...other things they did in frontier life in America...hummm...took a crap in an outhouse, didn't allow women any rights, persecuted everyone...hummm...what were we talking about again...oh yeah that's right the wonders of frontier life. Are you out of your mind? Give your children and your wife the privacy that they deserve. Our privacy is being eaten up bit by bit and you want to take the very last place a person can actually be alone away. Man you have some serious issues dude.

Get extra sleeping beds, because the teenagers are going to be so excited, they will want to have lots of their friends sleep over too. Great idea you got there Lucky. And the following winter you can do the same thing with your new family because this one just may have disappeared on you.

I've often wondered the same thing. Why is compartmentalizing so important? Whether it is a good idea or not really depends on your family, their values and their needs. If you talk about families that all sleep in one room you can get a feel for their views of it. If they seem game, you can suggest it.

Hey, go camping and enjoy. Spend some of your summer vacation in an RV or at a frontier style vacation spot. Not a good idea for home life in the USA in 2006. Especially when your talking about kids in that age range....
