the society we live in today accept that it is morally ok to sleep with loads of people and even have sex before you are married.when it clearly states in the bible that it is wrong, also why do people accept that being gay is normal when in the bible that also tells us that is wrong.the fabric of our society is going down the pan,we are teaching our kids and young people today that this way of life is acceptable when clearly it isn't decent people need to stand up and be counted and stop the rot in our society today, kids should be taught morals in school they would do a lot better in life if they were.

The bible no longer applies to society in the same way. Sure, as a guide it works, but look at it this way - why would nature create people who are sexually attracted to others in such a way that they will never make babies? To my thinking, nature knows best, and this is a way of easing population growth - back when the bible was written the population was a fraction of what it is today, whereas now the population is so great that it is starting to strain natural resources.

Also, I think it depends on what you mean by 'rot'. I agree with you that people's morals are questionable at best, why is it wrong to have sex with someone before you marry them? I mean, you test drive a car before you buy it, right? Sex with lots of different people, well, that's a difficult thing to answer ... good for boys, apparently, but not for girls. It's part of their nature to experiment, you can't stop them, but you can at least impress on them that they can do it safely and without any adverse physical consequences, like nasty diseases or unplanned pregnancies.

That's a very grand statement: 'kids should be taught morals in school they would do a lot better in life if they were.' Is it not up to parents to teach morals? Hold on a minute, aren't the parents out working like dogs in order to be able to afford (the appearance of) a lifestyle? Bit of a vicious circle going on there ... but then I suppose when you work like a dog you're bound to rear young pups.

It's not the school's responsibility to teach morals. (By the way, they tried it in Russia, during the Cold War. Not sure how well it worked, given that a prominent journalist and opponent of the Russian President was murdered and nobody is doing anything about it. Old habits die hard!)

I believe all that is happening today specially among the youth has to do with the misguided concept of freedom. In western society the concept of freedom has been wrongly interpreted.
Young people in our society want to be free and on their own as soon as possible free of all parental controls.
A wise man once said 'With great freedom comes great respnsibility'. The youth of today just have the feeling of freedom they are not free. They have to be told that infact they are slaves to the commercial establishment, to fashion and modern gadgets, drugs and alcohol. In the west the establishment commercial and political have both contributed to the wrong idea of freedom. The concept of "I" in the west is very narrow, limiting it to the physical ego which is the source of all human suffering.
In the far east it is taught that a man is free when he takes up responsibility of others, could be family, friends or even nature. A free person is a responsible person. Parents have to be the real school. Parents have to be responsible and the kids will follow. Parents have to learn to sacrifice for their kids. Parents have to set examples for their kids. Western society is a very lonley society. Loneliness is a major factor also contributing to all these other ills and all the technology around us is making us more lonley. We know what is happening on Mars but don't know the suffering of our neighbour.
We are neglecting our inner self and it will lead to disastrous consequences.

JANET M,
People are willing to take the risk. Of all the problems that could mount, they still take chances.

This Bi Christian does not think that there is nothing wrong with being what I am. Rather, I see a whole lot wrong with it. But you see, those that know they are sinners have not far to look to see that they need God's forgivance. And that's something people who think that they are normal miss. The Pharisees thoguht that they were beyond normal, and they were in a mess!

So no, I think taht it's just as much a problem of being gay as it is eating shellfish, both are abominations, according to the Old Testament, but the New Law as prescribed by Paul is not perfection in the Law, rather faith in Christ.

And that's where I stand. It's all that I have. I still suffer, and Jesus still is there to comfort me. His promises are true and good. And I love Him more.

Do you remember what Jesus said," Who loved his master more, the one who was forgiven a little, or the one that was forgiven much?" It's like that.

Because it is a nature of humans. The basic need is comfort.Although physically developed at age of 21 humans further life needs additional and permanent education.Rare understand or know that happy and fulfilling life requests permanent and conscious investment of the personal energy.Genuine meaning and synonym for morality is the best use of the personal energy.Today's economy deals with money.Economy of personal energy is far more larger and includes care (hygiene) for body as well as for all the human potential (thoughts, feelings and deeds).Total approach to the human's potential is less or more clearly presented in the holly scriptures (and many today's books) all over the world.

It is true that our society is rotten because we have lost our morals, our kids are being taught that they are animals, and hey lots of them thus behave like animals. I teach my kids that they were created unique by a loving God who is always with them, they have confidence. I wasn't a christian before I got married and I did have more than one partner, I guess the truth is that not enough people know Jesus just now. We can't tell anyone how to behave, we just have to behave ourselves in a way that shows Jesus in the world, and keep praying.

The moral issues should be taught at home so children will be raised as the parents want them to be raised. Don't leave that to the schools. Children will take what they are taught at home and deal with society with that in mind. It isn't so much that people accept the actions of others to be moral--that pre marital sex is okay, being gay is okay---it is that we have to accept we cannot control others, so we need to be mindful of ourselves and do the best we can to keep our moral standards high. We do judge others, but we should not. For those of whom we believe are immoral, they are to be judged by God. Parents must repeat, repeat, repeat, daily the dangers of drugs, sex, gangs, etc. and that's all we can do to mold them and prepare them for a rewarding future.

Society has compromise with sinners and continue to pacify their ungodliness. When prayer was taken out of our schools there has been more shootings and murders than I could count and other tragedies. Sadly, their are people who compromise with Homosexuals in their churches to teach our children also in schools that it is a normal lifestyle. Abstinence should be taught instead of passing out birth control and teaching its methods. Parents, teachers and even our clergymen need to step in help our youth before it gets worse. We as believers must continue to pray for our society.

God bless/Shalom

The bible isn't everyones cup of tea. Morals are about staying to yourself not just about reading about letter for letter and convincing yourself or aimlessly following it letter for letter. Does the bible also tell you not to judge and to be kind to your neighbour...guess you forgot to read that part though huh?

I agree that our society is going down the pan but not because 'the bible' says.

Just because you and your bible says that's the way it is doesn't mean that it is correct. The unknowable is just that - unknowable - and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. If the bible works for you and allows you to express your spirituality and feel good about life and your lifestyle, then great. Certainly you must admit that there are lots of other large groups of people in the world who do not subscribe to your faith - and that is just as it should be. Religion is a personal thing - and what other people do in their lives is no body's business but their own.

Peace!

i like you was brought up with the Christian faith, however i lost my faith years ago, i personally seen to much corruption and hypocrisy. i still chose to believe in god in my own way. we as parents are left to teach morals to our kids and it's not all that hard once they see you following the same rules. they do get a bit stroppy in there teens but it's quiet natural in there progress to becoming adults, in later years they tend to settle down again. i know a few same sex couples and they are genuinely happy folk, they don't judge me and i don't judge them. what i do find distressing is wife's that are bounded by there faith to abusive husbands, they are true martyrs but how can you help them? eventually some of them do break away but there faith has been weaken and for some this as bad as being marry.

in summary do we need religon to teach morality.
my honest answer is i don't.
