Like so many wiccans? Why? Have they gone doorknocking recently?

I agree that they're becoming more popular. I saw an episode of the cartoon Scooby Doo in which the witches turned out to be "good" witches, wiccans, a position defended as harmless. That's hawking a particular viewpoint to children whose parents assume it's just "neutral" cartoons! Other "magical" examples abound.

Since our public portrayal of society and our schools have become secular humanist, it's not suprising that occult practices are being portrayed as normal and harmless.

Not surprising, but disturbing for those of us that disagree.

Neo-pagans have been around for a while, but we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves. If you go to Yahoo groups and use the search term "Wicca", "Witch", "Pagan", or "Witchcraft" you will see literally thousands of Yahoo groups---most of which have been around for a while. Bookstores put our books in the New Age section instead of the religion section, but the shelves are constantly expanding for all of the reading material. We don't proselytize or tout our beliefs as "the one TRUE way". My local community probably has over 500 members of different neo-pagan faiths and in the last 15 years I have seldom worked in a place where there wasn't at least one other neo-pagan. We have families who have raised their children in their faith and now their children are raising their own families. I grew up with polytheistic beliefs in the 70's. Our community has members of all races and occupations. We're here, but we don't feel the need to go out and convert the world. We just live our lives in the best way that we know how.

I was wiccan when wiccan wasn't cool---it's not a structured, oppressive thing--you get the joy of believeing without a long list of "thou shalt nots" to ruin it for you, and you get to believe whatever you want to believe--why wouldn't it be popular?

It's probably Stephen Sondheim's fault.

ETA: Whoops! Meant Stephen Schwartz.

No door-knocking. More are being open about their beliefs and coming out of the proverbial broom-closet.

Any reason there shouln't be? Christianity has been getting more and more conservative and judgemental, driving away people who do not share their politics. It's no suprise that people might turn to other faiths like Wicca.

Tis the season..

also, there are more authors out there, turning out more books than ever before. Alot of them are worthless, with very little truth. When I began this path, there was little out there, yet more 'teachers'.. far and few inbetween I suppose.

My journey lead me to the truth..

I've never had one knock on my door, but I sure have had Jehovah Witnesses knock. The Wiccans would be more welcome.
