Why are members of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints wear white temple clothing when they die in the casket? Do memebers have to wear this or is it optional? Is it only for worthy memebers? thanks!

sorry I meant after they are dead and in the casket. Also, I think it is ok to ask because you don't have to be a member to go to a mormons funeral and see the clothing. It is only natural to ask or wonder right?

It is optional.
But LDS like me, believe we will be resurrected later, so wearing the temple clothes just is the logical thing to do.
Only those who been to the temple will have "meaning" to wear them, to those who do not understand the temple ritual, it is just clothing in white.
My personal opinion, thank goodness I could wear white, I never like dark color clothes. :-)

It's not an option if you are dead. It's the family's decision or option. Since the temple is like being in heaven, I can't think of a nicer way to dress. I got married this way, so that will be my bride's last image of me.

what the hell do you mean, "when they die in the casket"?
aren't they DEAD when they're PUT into the casket?
somethings telling me that you mormons have got the cart before the horse on this one!
