I got my first tattoo exactly one week ago on my lower back. It is in all black and I have been taking the best care of it possible!- (Applying the a&d ointment a few times a day, washing gently with antibacterial soap) and now I have moved on to lotion.

The past couple of days it has been itching like CRAZY. I knew it was going to itch, but this is almost unbearable! How long do you expect itching to last? Is this the final stage before it heals? Thanks in advance.

You will be fine. You sound like you have listened to the aftercare, and that is great. It's rare that people do that. thank you. It varies, depending on how you heal... It can last from a day or two, to a week, to two weeks(but not usually that much.) There are cremes and lotions, and certain aftercares that subside the itching. Ask your artist for their prefrence and reccomendation...

It is very close to being healed. After your skin flakes off, (it should not scab off, but almost peel like a sunburn)make sure to keep it moisturized with lotion for a few more weeks. Sometimes after they scab or peel, tattoos look shiny and kind of wrinkled(just sooo slightly), just keep it moisturized with lotion, and then when it looks exactly like the rest of your skin(the texture and feel the same)except for the whole design in your skin :-) ..it would be considered completely healed...

You're doing good! Don't worry..

Just remember, no matter what DO NOT scratch. Cry and scream and throw a fit and hit stuff, just, for the love of God do not scratch it....

yeah, my friggin' finger is going through the same thing...gah..

Congrats on the tattoo, by the way!

Never use Vaseline, or Calamine lotion. Use a mild anti-bacterial soap to gently wash it and pat dry. Then apply a thin layer of Bepanthon cream to it, it is used for Nappy Rash but was recommended to me by my tattoo artist. the last 3 tatts I had were all healed with this and it really helped with the itching.

Yes it is in it's finaly stage now. Try not to peel on it. The itch will last about 2 weeks depending on how big yr tattoo is.

See if the tattoo parlor that you had your tattoo done at carries "tattoo goo". It really helps for the final stages of the healing process. Congrats on your art!

I got a tat on my lower back in May and one on my foot at the same time!!! The one on my foot did not bother me, but the one on lower back drove me crazy it itched soooo bad. It lasted like 2 days and then it was fine. It is the healing process i guess!!!

ask your tattoo artist about H2Ocean tattoo foam. Its really good and it can help with the itching. I use it on my tattoos. It also helps them to heal faster.

my first tattoo,i thought it was gonna be damaged due to me scratchin. but it didnt.
but try to not to apply too much of the ointment.
twice a day will do the job.
remember, dont be like me. never scratch it or you'll damage quite a lil.
