About three and a half weeks ago, I was running two to three miles a day. Between now and then, i've been sick, i've moved, etc, and i'm getting ready to start in again. If i started running again at two or three miles, is that too much? Will i get an injury?

The answer is... it depends.

- are you still in okay shape? or did that illness really knock you down?

- how hard are you running? 10 min miles, or 5 min miles? Intervals? Uphill? Downhill?

I'd suggest aiming for a "slow for you" pace on the first day or two. Expect some tighness when you get done. I sometimes take the 800 mg Motrin BEFORE the run, and some potassium as well (for cramps).

Muscle memory will kick in after a few trips... maybe even during the first run.

I would kind of feel it out. I think I would try running 1-1/2 to 2 miles for a week (slowly at first) then gradually build up to 3 miles depending on how I felt.

I would build up to it.

Run a mile, then 5 laps, then six laps, then seven laps.

If it is too much, then hold at a level (six laps) until you feel strong enough to move up

It is always good to take a break now and then, this gives the body time to rest.

I just did that and my feet complained to me for a couple of days afterwards. Build back up to it over a couple days, your feet will thank you.
