yes, white bread turns into sugar and gets stored as fat if you don't work out.

Well white bread contains more processed sugar than brown bread... so your body just takes the sugar in and turns it into fat.

As for not working out, even if you hardly ate and didn't work out your basal metabolic rate (metabolism rate at resting state) would be pretty low (one because you're not eating so your BMR decreases, two because you're not exercising). So it'd be bad for you anyway.

Working out can simply mean biking, walking or jogging to a place rather than using a car. Getting up and stretching every so often when you're at home... increasing physical activity.. etc etc..

Even if you're thin/slim you should exercise. It helps you gain muscle weight rather than fat weight.
