If you are very young, old, pregnant or immune system compromised they are important to get. If you are a normal healthy adult it isn't necessary, but it is a good idea.

I think if you are generally healthy, they are not that important. I am over 50 and have never had a flu shot. I had the flu only once in my life and that was many years ago.

As someone else said, they are important for some people, but those people are usually under medical care and the doctor will let these people know what they need to do.

It depends whether you think you can afford to lose a week from work or school if you do get the flu. If you have another disease that would make your condition worse, get the flu shot. If you have asthma or respiratory and heart problems, it's probably a good idea. The young and old are most effected by the flu. They are the ones who need protection the most.

Part of the problem are the "heroes" who go to work with the flu and spread it around to everyone else. Ditto for the parents who can't miss a day of work and send their contagious kids to school to spread the flu to others. We'd all be healthier if the sick people stayed home to recuperate.

People can die from complications from the flu. Statistics prove that the flu virus can mutate into a deadly version rather quickly.

I would rather be safe than sorry. Lying in bed for a week with a wicked headache, etc. is not my ideal.

Flu shots are important for the immunocompromised since they are prone to infections. I think it is advisable that we get our flu shots yearly. There are a lot of cases of flu now and you usually miss to go to school or work for almost a week. It is also advisable for the elderly since infection usually spread fast in these age groups.

Swine flu could make your lungs bleed. in case you're a student you may desire to in all probability get it. you may get it in a nasal spray however the vaccine heavily isn't out till next month. i do no longer comprehend what the area outcomes are - in all probability comparable to any vaccine. i will permit you already know although, that i'm paranoid approximately vaccines (and not because of the fact of needle worry the two - I attempt my blood sugar daily so i'm no longer afraid of needles, basically skeptical approximately loading your physique with maximum of photos) and that i plan on getting the H1N1 vaccine because of the fact i'm a student and it is a clean virus that i will have not have been given any immunity against and there are severe hazards with H1N1 that are no longer recent with seasonal flu.

They are important if you are not strong enough to fight the flu (eg elderly, asthmatic, etc).

I'm in the risk group, but elected not to have it this year. It makes me sick! Go figure!

the reply you got was correct but sorta missed one big point....old, very young, pregnant is right but also anyone who would have trouble getting out of a bad lung infection...that means people with COPD, bad heart disease, diabetes, severe asthma... people on long term steroids...
Also if you are healthy and are planing to go without the flu shot..(although I recommend them) then make sure you practice avoidance of contact, meticulous hand washing etc.
