When I look into the religion and spirituality section of the questions here, I find an awful lot of Christianity Bashing. Most of what I have read is uninformed and angry. I know why I think people target Christians, but would like honest answers as to others' thoughts.

Thank you all for your responses. Interesting. By the way, I bet you don't know why I think there is Christian bashing. I have never, nor will I ever, poke fun at the beliefs of others. My husband is Muslim - we live in harmony and never bash each other's religion. So those of you who are so angry - please realize, not every one who professes Christianity is childish and immature. I just wondered who was hurting you to make you so angry. It's very sad to me.

" If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as it's own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:18-19

Yes, Christianity gets a good share of "bashing", but it's also all other religions. Why? Because nobody has/shows the love Jesus told his followers to have. (John 13:34,35) Perhaps more people should put into practice the words at Proverbs 15:1, which says: "An answer, when mild, turns away rage, but a word causing pain makes anger to come up." Also, Romans 12:18: "If possible, as far as it depends upon you, be peaceable with all men."

However, is anyone *really* living by Bible standards today? Instead, all we see is anger and violence. Why? Revelation 12:9 says: "So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the *entire* inhabited earth..." Then, in verse 12 of that same chapter, it states: "...the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time."

But the "wicked" will soon be done away with. Psalm 37:10,11 says: "10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

Mostly because many Christians think they hold the franchise on morality. Anyone outside of their religion can not be as moral and good as they are. Many of the so-called bashers here have run across hypocritical Christians who go to church but are there only for the social outlet it provides( keeping up appearances).
There are many of us out here who study and research for the truth in life, and are a little put off by those who say "Just have Faith in our book(that sounds a great deal like Greek Mythology)"
If the Christians would be more serious about their religion and find the deeper spiritual meaning and not the literal meaning of the words of Christ then a truce could be considered.
Funny they think I'm going to Hell, for questioning the Bible; and I think their hypocrisy will take them there first.
Live Well.............

There isn't nearly as much bashing here as in the Gay-Lesbian area or the Homeschooling area of the Immigrants area.

If you're tired of all the bashing go to a section where it never happens, like Mathmatics, when you get tired of that come back here and play kick the can.

When I ask a serious question, looking into your religion, as if ...you know.. I have actually thought about it... and ... this is the correct forum to ask such a question.... when I get an answer like... "Hey buddy, why don't you switch to decaf??" ... how can you expect anything else except an angry response for your old saw, " What did we ever do to you?"
HONESTLY, such glib ignorance coming from people who presumably think that they are actually defending your religion. That's why I like this site, a lot of you guys give your whole deal a 'big black eye.'

I don't think it's really Christians per se who are being bashed, but rather those Born Again extremists who are giving Christianity a bad name because they think they have all the answers for everyone, and therefore they are copying the Muslim fundamentalists and are in fact now attempting to turn America into a Christian Theocracy, a "Born Again Dictatorship"!
If the Born Agains would just stop harassing the whole country with their vicious and violent Anti-Christian messages, we could all relax and go back to being friendly Americans again.

Ignorance is bliss. Seeing with world in simplistic terms is wonderful for the unwise.

That's why there is so much bashing of all kinds at this site. I commend you for sharing your frustration over it, because you are not the only one. I would only add that any bashing of someone's beliefs is counterproductive to learning, and that all of us should aspire to learn from others, even if we disagree with them.

I try to read the thoughtful answers of Christians, Muslims, atheists, etc., and ignore the rest. Hard to do but...

All the best.

I notice there is Christian bashing and Muslim bashing. Some of the bashing may be justified to some extent, as some Christians, and some Muslims, say some pretty silly things, inviting a bashing.
However I think a lot of the "bashing" is simply because that is a lot more fun than actually thinking of the claims of Christianity (or of any other belief).
To the extent that Christianity advances, there will be more and more Christian bashing. That is inevitable.

well try coming at a different time-slot that would help you know how much atheists are bashed around here. then again try coming at a different time- slot to see how much Wiccans, Satanists, Jehovans and Gays are bashed here. then try coming at a different time slot, the you will see the wors of the worst bashings -- the bashing of Muslims.

everyone is being bashed, verbally abused and insulted, all in the nme of -- Freedom of Speech. such a hard price to pay for Freedom and Equality, isnt it?.

I think it is because Christianity is one of the largest religious groups and thus a big target. Also, there is no taboo against Christian-bashing to the extent that there is against Jew-bashing and Muslim-bashing (not that this doesn't happen). It's more PC to bash on Christianity, as it is broad and racially diverse. Of course, many people simply don't agree with Christian beliefs or have been hurt by people claiming Christianity in the past, and they use general bashing of the religion as an outlet for their retaliation (albeit immature and misguided, in my humble opinion).
