I'm getting a a puggle soon and was wondering if I litter box train him now, using either peepads or the litter so he will have a place to go at all times...then train him to go outside most of the time, but just have the litter box as a back up for when I'm not home?

It is possible to litter train a puppy. There are so many advantages to litter training.
Apartment dwellers with no yard can use a litter box, no need to walk a dog when staying in a hotel, or bad weather prevents you and your dog from being outside for too long.
Please note, Litter training is not meant to train your dog to never be able to go potty outside. It is to be used to help assist young dogs while being house trained. Puppies that are litter boxed trained can successfully use a litter box and also go outside.
This is how to train puppies...
At about 3 weeks of age we put a cookie sheet with litter in the puppy pen. The puppies will start quickly crawling over to the pan to go...
Sometimes they have the front legs in and the hind end hanging out of the pan, but hey! The pups get an "A" for effort.
Around 5 weeks of age the little puppy fur-kids are starting to grow, climb and play more At this time graduate them to a regular Dollar Store $2.00 plastic cat litter pan. Some people like to purchase a covered cat pan to use in their home when male housedog starts to lift their leg, to protect their walls.

Most dogs are first trained on newspapers. For that size of a dog it works. Our dogs first used those then they were trained to go out side and they do both. That way when it is cold or there is a lot of snow they don't have to go outside.

You can train a dog to do anything but I would seriously think about your decision to become a dog owner because it is cruel to have a dog locked up in a home all day on its own. They are social animals and need exercise - an absence of these two things will cause you alot of grief when your dog becomes a neurotic mess!

I know you can paper train a dog. I had one that when she got big enough I started taking her out to go potty. She would go both ways when she got older.

i've got heard which you would be able to clutter field practice a canines. I skilled mine to apply the puppy education paper. She is now 4 and we use it for all time. i latterly moved and he or she had no subject adjusting to the hot region. as quickly as we decide for a walk she would have the ability to pass outdoors too. you may desire to be waiting to coach him to apply the clutter field; although, he could get used to applying it for all time. it is quite useful to ascertain alongside with your vet.
