Last year it spent 7.3 billion dollars just on enforcement. This year it used 10 billion dollars just on an on-line screening program. This list goes on and and on. Billions and billions of dollars spent(wasted, actually) on border security.
Shouldn't this money be spent on education?
Or at least something productive...

What is wrong with having a secure border, especially with threats of terrorist attacks? As long as the money is being spent effectively, and not wasted, I think it's necessary.

You know, I see people ridiculing the 'border fence' on here all the time. Yet, some of those same people whine and cry about all the illegal immigrants and the problems they have caused our country, the taxes we pay on all the programs they have drained of funds.....

Understand this, the border fence DOES curtail a LOT of the illegal entry into this country. It doesn't STOP all of it. the fence along with other actions will slow or stop illegal immigration. When you combine the lowered numbers coming across the border with the fact they can't get jobs here due to penalties to anyone who hires them, no federal assistance to them like welfare, food stamps, housing, free/low medical, no issuances of drivers licenses ...they will have NO incentives to come here. They will stand to be deported to never be able to return if found. It all works together like a network. It WILL work.

We could stop sending that aid to Mexico (which is just lining their leaders pockets) and put THAT into the border fence. It would even out a little more.

How about we redirect the money spent on NATIONAL DEFENSE - from buying the 10 Stealth bombers to using that money for the border. That way, no extra money will be taken from anywhere else, and the border will be secure like it should be.

And did you think that if we DID spend the money years ago on enforcing the borders, we would have such a money problem in our schools? I mean, overcrowding wouldn't be an issue without all of the illegal immigrants' children attending our schools. . .

In addition to spending money at the border the US should spend money on enforcing labor laws. By that I mean holding those responsible; mainly employers, for giving incentive for the illegals in the first place.

I would like to point out that illegals put financial pressure on the education system as well as the so that is not the besy argument

We should spend whatever it takes. Keeping the illegal immigrants from flooding our schools would help far more than the money being spent on education. There are simply a huge, illegally present volume of students whose families can't afford to pay taxes that begin to cover their school. Of course, it is money wasted if there isn't also internal enforcement.

unless they put guards every 10 feet throughout the entire border, you will always have people sneaking across the border. and that isn't feasible.i say that it should be spent on better things.

and yes there are a lot of illegal immigrants but they take the jobs AMERICANS DON'T WANT, or they are more willing to work. companies pay them the same amount. so if you were a company owner, would you hire a person who won't do a very good job, or would you hire someone who is more than willing to work? the people complaining "they are stealing our jobs" are just lazy people who aren't willing to work but still want the pay. if you kicked all the illegals out, our economy would go down the drain.

we are talking about the govment here, if you could actually get a realistic accounting of how that 7.3 billion was spent, i think you would find that very little of it was actually spent wisely. What they should do is cut out the pork, the waste, and the straight out theft of the money, and do the job right.

you're talking approximately spending trillions and trillions of greenbacks with an unclear risk of fulfillment. at the beginning, you're talking a pair of very long distance to dig. it incredibly is over 1900 miles. that would take an prolonged time to dig out. The environmental effect may be great. Plus, the place do you intend on getting the water to fill this element? whether you have a great desalination plant occurring the Gulf of Mexico, you is merely no longer waiting to offer sufficient water to maintain this element filled. 1900 miles, we could say the element is 50 ft extensive and 20 ft deep. that would take seventy 5,044,571,4 hundred gallons of water to fill it. in the journey that your desalination plant can produce a million gallons an afternoon then it incredibly is going to take over 200 years to fill this element up. i comprehend it does rain each so often in those factors yet i'm figuring that the rain will make amends for evaporation. Plus, there is a few fairly no longer uncomplicated terrain available. you're talking approximately digging up mountains. no longer an uncomplicated activity. Even after it became all mentioned and achieved it would not flow an prolonged way in direction of slowing down unlawful immigration or the drug flow. except you have protection guards observing each inch of the element then human beings won't have a no longer uncomplicated time swimming for the time of or boating for the time of or construction their very own bridges or flying over it or another inventive approach of having for the time of. we could say which you intend in hiring protection guards to video exhibit each inch of the element. we could say one shield each 500 ft (it incredibly is fairly some section for them to video exhibit yet oh nicely). you have 3 8 hour shifts and each shield makes $25,000 a 365 days. that would take 60,000 guards and can fee the U.S. $a million,504,800,000. it incredibly is merely salaries and that's without administration or advantages or systems or practise or equipment and diverse different expenditures. interior the top, this concept isn't technically plausible, econically possible, or waiting to repair the priority it fairly is proposed to repair.

Something productive? I for one believe that securing the national border IS productive. It is a joke how many people flow across the border. Should we just open up the borders? When my forefathers came here, they had to register to become citizens. What a concept!

Illegals are taxing our country to death. They get free education, welfare, housing, etc. All they have to do is "become legal" and pay a $2000 fine against back taxes and then they get more benefits than any natural born citizen could ever imagine.. not to mention they can get social security without paying into it.
