He seemed a lot more interesting online and I don't want to ignore his emails or tell him I'm busy until he gives up.

OK, clarification: we met as friends. I have a boyfriend...if it was as easy as dating I would've used the "it's not you, it's me" speech

Tell him that you two have drifted apart in personalities and it would be best for the both of you to find other people who would more suit each others personalities. Make sure you tell him you like him so that he doesn't think you've grown to despise him. Other than that, you wont find a polite way to tell someone to go away.

Keeping someone hanging on if you are really not interested in them doesn't do that person any favors...because they will still think they have a chance to get closer to you or have some sort of relationship. Maybe you could email him and say something like "Now that we have been emailing for awhile, I really don't think we have very many things in common. I don't want to hurt your feelings, or waste your time. However, maybe you should move on to someone else you might be have more in common with."

The very best way to give a man a hint about how you feel about him is to tell how wonderful it is to have such a good friend that is just like a brother to you. Use the term, "big brother" or "little brother" whenver you talk with him. He'll get the point.

The proper way would be "honesty" just send him an email short and to the point don't send a book. You might say something like this" I don't believe that there is any chemistry here for us.....or Our season is over. If he is mature he will move on.

Be straightforward, gentle, and do it sooner rather than later. Something like "I don't think it's working out" would be good. A cop out would be "My job is busier than ever and I don't have time for a relationship right now." The mean way is "This isn't working out, so goodbye."

I think straight out, no beating around the bush is the best way.

Gentility sometimes doesn't convey a sense of finality, and can be misunderstood as you merely not being interested at this time.......but maybe later.

Say it plainly and directly.....

You need to be honest or you could really break his heart. Just tell him the truth, it will sting for a bit but better now then later. Tell him you just want to be friends.

Tell him your true feelings. If you're completely honest with him, that's the best way to do it.

Tough one. I am not sure there is a nice way to tell a guy that.
