Do you really set your fashion preferences by what people 2000 years ago thought was decent?

I think it is purely a question of taste. There is a Bible story, by the way, of Eliezer putting a ring in Rebecca's nose. (I doubt he pierced it right there! She must have already had a little ring to put other rings through?) As far as the earing for slaves, yes, it was a symbol - but there is absolutely nothing in the Bible that says it is right or wrong for a person to have that as fashion.
Twenty years ago you would have stuck out like a sore thumb in many places. Today, I don't think you can go anywhere without seeing a man with an earing. Fashions change. When I was a teenager I wanted to have nothing to do with high heels for men. Well, I got married in them - everyone wore them - and flare pants as well. Today, you can't find either one any more. It really has nothing to do with right or wrong.

I will never ever wear an earing. I am christian.
I don't think though that there is anything wrong with it, or it goes against any beliefs or bible.
Note that bible was written thousands of years ago.

I don't think God is going to close the doors to Heaven just cause a guy shows up with an earring.

in actuality that this: God loves you for YOU. it quite is not correct what's on the exterior. in case you have a penchant for wearing black denims with military socks - then so be it! He won't care. I do think of it quite is needed be tastefully wearing church so which you will teach admire for the Lord and fellow contributors of your church. and that i'm optimistic you recognize to not gown provocatively. denims, jewelry, clothing and skirts are all a-ok. :)

who cares? Most of the rules in the old testimate don't apply to today's society because Christ has already come and died on the cross so we live by a whole different set of rules

i don't believe so. but if it is considered inappropriate in the worship service of a certain church, i would advise them to remove their earrings. male piercings take on a different connotation in this culture than they did in that ancient culture. good luck!
