Because nobody can trust anybody to be competent anymore. Instead, everybody just says - I'm a retard with a degree, but they've got a degree. Wow. That must prove that you can "stick it out" when things get tough.

Well I attend school because i want to get a education so i can be a surgeon. Being a surgeon has two good benefits:
*I help ppl, which God and i both like
*I will be rich

The U.S. makes education free NOT because they care about the poor, dumb little kids. They just wanna make sure that the ppl in the country aren't dumb and don't pick 50 cent as the president(his bullet proof vest would come in handy though) instead of picking a smarter choice.
