Photosynthesis is the method by which the plant converts the energy from the sun into a form it can use to sustain it's own life processes. The plant constructs glucose (C6H12O6) and produces ATP during photosynthesis by combining carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). Plants use this glucose as a storage product which can later be broken down to release more ATP (cellular storage molecule for energy) to be used for all plant functions.

Plants need chlorophyll. Photosynthesis is the act of the plant reacting and transforming the sunlight into food.

(photo=light, synthesis=putting together), generally, is the synthesis of sugar from light, carbon dioxide and water, with oxygen as a by-product. It is arguably the most important biochemical pathway known; nearly all life depends on it. It is an extremely complex process, comprised of many coordinated biochemical reactions.

During the light-dependent stage (light reaction), chlorophyll absorbs light energy, which excites some electrons in the pigment molecules to higher energy levels; these leave the chlorophyll and pass along a series of molecules, generating formation of NADPH (an enzyme) and high-energy ATP molecules. Oxygen, released as a by-product, passes into the atmosphere through pores in the leaves. NADPH and ATP drive the second stage, the dark reaction (or Calvin cycle, discovered by Melvin Calvin), which does not require light. During this stage glucose is generated using atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The initial process in photosynthesis is the decomposition of water (H2O) into oxygen, which is released, and hydrogen; direct light is required for this process. The hydrogen and the carbon and oxygen of carbon dioxide (CO2) are then converted into a series of increasingly complex compounds that result finally in a stable organic compound, glucose (C6H12O6), and water. This phase of photosynthesis utilizes stored energy and therefore can proceed in the dark. The simplified equation used to represent this overall process is 6CO2+12H2O+energy=C6H12O6+6O2+6H2O. In general, the results of this process are the reverse of those in respiration, in which carbohydrates are oxidized to release energy, with the production of carbon dioxide and water.

plants are autotropic i.e. they prepare their own food through photosynthesis. product of photosynthesis is carbohydrate, which is necessary to maintain life of the plant. these carbohydrates undergo cell respiration, and give energy in the form of ATP. this atp energy is necessary to maintain life. carbohydrates are one type food materials which can give atp energy. so plants using chlorophyll pigment, water, sun light prepare food(carbohydrates) in a process- photosynthesis. where as animals are not having the green pigment (chlorophyll)&the mechinary for photosynthesis they developed habit of eating plants and other animals and so animals nutrition is called heteo trophic.

why do you need to eat??? it's the same reason. they need the energy to grow, repair themselves and to reproduce.
same as you and me . as plants don't have legs to chase their prey, the chlorophyll converts sun light into food(the process is called photosynthesis.) of course plants don't just live on sunshine, they also need minerals and other nutrients.

They use sunlight, water, and carbondioxide to make sugar. And they release oxygen as a byproduct of the reaction. The sugar that is made can me used in numerous aspect such as growing.

For most plants it is their primary source of energy. Like asking why do animals have to eat?
