I have been doing some research online to fly from Chicago to Austin over New Years and most of the prices are about the same. With the exception of United, that is, which for some reason is hundreds of dollars more. Does anyone know of a good place to find the best deals on airfare? Are there any, or are all of the prices going to be about the same (~ $300/round trip)

Thanks!

Try this site so you can compare many travel sites:

http://www.iBtraveling.com

You'll see Price Line within that site, and although you can make a "bid" on a flight, you HAVE to take the flight they accept your bid for. It could be a flight that leaves Friday night at eleven and then a flight Sunday morning at 3 a.m. for your return flight. So, keep this in mind. This site is really good for hotels and car rentals though.

While comparing different travel sites, when you find the flight that looks good to you, keep that window open and off the side of your screen, then look for another flight with the next travel site to see what their deal is, but keep open the window with the lowest price so all you'll have to do is go back to that window to make a purchase.

Also, with my experience when looking for cheap tickets, I've found that on Tuesdays and Wednesdays you can find the cheapest flights. Also, booking a flight about 3 weeks ahead of time can be cheaper too since they'll be looking to fill the plane up. If you wait for the 2 weeks before take off, the price keeps going up, up and up. As for New Years....I'd suggest booking it as soon as possible.

Have fun! Good luck!

Southwest southwest airlines.com flies from Chicago to Austin and it's fares are the lowest there are. Good luck!

Chek out mobissimo.com. It is a great site. it gives you the rates offered by cheaptickets and orbitz and others so you can compare without having to go to each different site.

It really depends. I would check orbitz first, and then check deals on cheaptickets.com, priceline.com, studentuniverse.com (if a student). Those are the ones I can think of.
