Yes! I talked constantly to Cocker-poo mix when we lived alone together. She got to understand 150 different words- I listed them once after reading that a smart breed has that capability. The more love you put into your dog, the more you get back. This is even true of animals that I care for when their owners are away. The owners come back & tell me thier pet has never been so happy when they return, that they are amazed at how crazy the animal is about me. They are so much smarter than we sometimes realize. It's a lot of fun and I think you are a great animal owner for doing so. Continue on & enjoy her company to the fullest. A friend of mine has a theory that one of the reasons God put animals here with us is as a reflection of unconditional love -the way that God loves us. IE. they are always ready to grant forgiveness, love ya no matter what. Congratualations to such an enjoyable relationship for you both. Have fun with it! And by the way,I do the same with my cat, and she is constantly surprising me with how much she understands. All pretty cool stuff =)

I talk to my cats. I talk to my three week old son. If I'm not happy with it, I'll talk to my computer. It's perfectly normal as long as he continues not to answer you in English, although a lot of times my cats will meow or trill at me back, like they really think they're involved in a conversation and have something to say (what that is is anyone's guess). People are social creatures and need to socialize, even if ultimately the one they're socializing with is themselves. If nothing else, it's good stress relief and lets you voice thoughts or emotions you wouldn't to a real person. And with animals, they may not understand what you're saying in the sense that they don't speak English, but they do understand emotions, and sometimes can pick up on your mood and tone so well, that they might as well understand what you're talking about.

Same for me. I live alone with my dog. I talk to her all the time. People treat their pets nowadays as a member of the family, and you talk to your family don't you? Some people think it's stupid, I'm sure. Most of those people are not animal lovers though.

Yes, it's normal to talk to your dog, they are very witty and
they can tell what you say and want by the look on your face and the tone of your voice. They are not pieces of furniture and they like to be talked to. I have 4 dogs and I talk to all of them and they seem very happy and sociable. My friends also do the same

Your talking to him probably improves the understanding between you. Sometimes it is surprizing how much a poodle understands.
Once I was visiting my parents with my poodle Bandit. Bandit was following my mom around; my mom got annoyed and exclaimed, "Bandit, why don't you just go and sit on Phil's lap!" Bandit stopped, went over to my dad (Phil) and jumped into his lap. Who knew that Bandit understood this much English?

I talk to my dogs like they are human all the time. Our inside dog sleeps in the bed with us and even sleeps with her head on a pillow just like a human. I treat mine more like a human than a dog.

I groom dogs, and I carry on long, albeit one-sided, conversations with all my grooming dogs. I think if nothing else, they like to hear our voices. And it's definitely better than cooing at them so they get all overexcited and whiney. As long as he hasn't talked back yet, you're good to go ;)

Keep it up, talking to someone that never talks back or disagrees is a rarity, if you and your dog enjoy it, then don't stop. Most people talk to their animals as if they understand every word.

I talked to al my daogs as if they understood what I said. I am convinced that at times they did. Of course I was slighlty prejudiced as they were the most gorgeous and intelligent of all animals.
