Actually, in Genesis 1:1, in Latin, the word "create" translates into make something out of nothing. In Genesis 1:2 the second "create" translates into make something out of materials already in existence. This is where Bible scholars get their big bang theory, where Satan tried to take over and a war ensued. God won, but all that had been created from nothing was destroyed. The second time, God took what was left and re-created everything. I always thought that was fascinating.

Gen1 describes the creation of man all the races on the 6th day
(remember god has said a 1000 years is like unto 1 day and 1 day 1000 years)
Gen2 on the 7th day he rested (1000 years) after the 7th day he creates THE Adam on the 8th day (about 2000 years latter)
The text
Gen 1
27 And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. ï- see the THEM more than 1 assume more than 1 set
31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Done on the 6th day
Gen 2
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made.
The 7th day is now over
7 And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
If this on the 8th day is to be the first man what the hell happened to them created on the 6th day???? Come on use some wisdom this is THE Adam not an Adam of the 6th.

Chapters 1-4 are summarized by Chapter 5. It is generally thought that Chapters 1-4 are Adam's account as told by God and handed down through generations through the Book of Enoch, (a Book not included in the Bible). Chapter 5 is a genealogy as told Moses by God and memorized by early Israelites. They are not the same events repeated, but the same events retold by different people. God bless you and keep asking questions.

It's a Jewish style of writing. First you are given an overview picture, then you are given more facts. In Genesis 1, it says that God created them, male and female. Then in Genesis 2, it says that God created Adam first, that created Eve from his rib. All Genesis 2 is doing is giving more details about what happened in Genesis 1.

Did you ever stop and think that the second account that your are referring to is just more detailed about the creation of the human pair Adam and Eve. After all.... God loves his children the most, so why would he not go back and explain his creation with the humans?

one of them is a generalized creation of the world. then it pauses, and starts again but this time elaborating on the details, unlike the the first time. sort of like the person said, "okay, first i'm going to write a short summary for the people who just want a quick read, and then i will add a more detailed description for people who are interested in knowing more."

It was put together from two ancient sources. I think one is called the Book of J. I can't remember the other one. It's been too long since my World Religions class.

because he screwed it up the first time--hebrew scriptures refer to the creation of lilith, Adam's first wife and that didn't go so well--the twin creation stories are evidence that something was edited out of the bible--but christians don't care
