I attended private school. My parents had no intention of sending me to public school. It was known from birth that I would attend the same private girls' school as my mother. Also, they felt that boarding school helps reinforce a young person's sense of independence, because once you're there, you can't rely upon your parents to do every little thing for you. My parents, as products of private education themselves, never put much faith in the public school system. They thought that public schools tended to produce shallow, under-educated people who never read the classics, listened to the great composers and so forth. The truth is, though, I've met some very bright people from the public schools. I think that if one is truly motivated, a good education can be had regardless of what type of school one has been sent to.

I attended Private Catholic schools until High School and I can tell you from personal experience that Private Schools DO offer a better education and are far safer than public Schools. How often, except in the movies or in books of fiction, do you hear of any kid bringing a gun to a Private School, and killing people? You don't. There are many programs that allow people who aren't wealthy, (I wasn't a wealthy kid, but my parents could afford to pay for it, those I attended gave low tuition's to kids who were also Catholic, which I was and still am, but not all of my class-mates were) to send their children to private schools. It's the best way to go.

I went to both private Catholic schools and public schools. The educational environment was definitely more challenging in private school. I was mainly sent for religious reasons rather than educational, though. At any rate, I graduated top of my class in a public high school, but many of my study habits, the same ones I'm using as an honors student in college now, came straight from Catholic school, and that's the truth. The public schools didn't seem to offer much in terms of critical thinking, study skills, and basic college preparation.

Some parents believe that private school offers a safer and better education than public school so they fork over the money to pay for private school. My mom put me in private school for safety reasons because the neighborhood we used to live in had really bad schools. Once we moved to a different district I went to public school.

Because they believe their children have a better chance of doing much better than in a regular school. Most public schools do not offer the educational high standards that private schools do.
In addition to the above, there's less student disruption too and perhaps they are more organized.

Probably because you don't get the same attention in public schools as you would in a private school. Private schools offer your child a better chance at getting scholarships and preparing them for college and beyond.Public schools are a less strict on educational standards and don't really have the patience to deal with all of the kids that are in the class room,so a lote of kids miss out on things.Private schools have smaller class rooms which make it easier for a child to learn and get the attention that he/she needs.

There are a lot of resentful, whiny answers to this question!
Public teachers as a group have the smarts to tie (but not beat) clerks and cashiers in intelligence tests. They are frighteningly dumb. Of the 27 richest nations on this planet, America's public schools rank 27 out of 27. American parents who home school their children create better college students of their children than do the public schools.
Private schools are ruthless about preparing kids for college. They know how to do it and they stamp out any discipline problems.
Private boarding schools are even better because they prepare children for the real world and its rules. Expensive but worthwhile.

you need to research this on your own and do the math. Get the statistics. There age great public schools for which taxpayers support and there are great private school for which you can pay tuition.
And then there are poor schools weather or not you are a taxpayer or tuition payer.
Only you can decide from which you would benefit

Have you visited a public school lately? If I had the money I'd pull my kids back out of public school and ship them back to private school. Less kids per teacher and they usually have a dress and behavior code which is strictly enforced.

Usually one can get a better or specialized education at a private school. Public schools are unable to pick and choose students, and teachers are typically forced to teach at the lowest comoon level. Besides that - most public school education is centered around EOG (end of grade) tests, and year end statistics that help in determining funding.
