The goal of the MSTP is to train the next generation of physician-scientists who will shape the future of medicine. It is designed for students who want to pursue careers that include both research and clinical practice. Students receive rigorous scientific training in addition to full academic and clinical training in the practice of medicine. This training program enables students to bridge the disparate cultures of scientific investigation and clinical medicine. This program is supported by a Medical Scientist Training Program grant from the National Institutes of Health. All students receive full tuition scholarships and generous stipends throughout their training.

Some schools with this program in the Mid-west:
Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri
University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Baylor College of Medicine
University of Michigan
University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine, Illinois
Northwestern University-Feinberg School of Medicine
