You know there are many people who believe that when people die, they go into the ground and they sleep there till the coming of the Lord. Is that true or isn’t that true, Soul Sleep…?
No, it’s not true at all and it’s a very erroneous doctrine.
James 2:26 says, “As the body without the spirit dead…” Where does that spirit go? 2 Corinthians 5:8 says, “Absent from the body… present with the Lord”. That’s why Paul said, “To die is gain”. Now, when the Lord returns in I Thessalonians 4:16-18, he brings the dead with him to come after the dead, for the dead in Christ rise first. What part does he bring with him? – The spirit that left the body, that’s been there to join the body. There is no soul-sleep in this book.
.
Judgment Day is NOT until AFTER the Battle of Armageddon. Which is the 3rd coming. not 2nd.
There is Rapture & Revealation. Don't confuse them. They are 2 different things.
Rapture is when Christ says: come up hither".
Revelation (Reveals) is when Christ comes back to earth and reveals Himself.

A basic overview of the Plan of Salvation is this:
1. Before we came to Earth we lived with God as spirits in the Pre-Mortal Spirit World.
2. When we come to Earth we get a body and a veil is place over us - that we don't remember the Pre-Mortal Spirit World.
3. At death our body and spirit seperate - the body goes to the grave to await the resurrection and the spirit goes into the Post-Mortal Spirit World which is divided into 2 parts (Spirit Prison and Spirit Paradise)
4. There will be a Resurrection for each person who had a body - There are different times - there is the Morning of the Resurrection (= the just are Resurrected), later there is a Resurrection of the unjust...
5. The righteous will be living on the Earth in it's paradisiacal state during a period called "The Millennium"
6. After the Millennium will be Final Judgment - where people will be assigned to a kingdom of glory (if they are worthy of one and can abide the laws of that kingdom)
So the short answer is...they are in the Post-Mortal Spirit World.

I think the best answer comes from the fact that Jesus told the thief on the cross that he
would be with Jesus that day in paradise; also in Hebrews 12 there is a hint that those
in paradise watch us ("we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses")--that may
refer to the 'witness" of previous heroes of faith (in chapter 11), but may also mean those
in heaven now.
The fact is that the Lord and the thief on the cross entered Hades in the "heart" or core of the earth, and went to the place which Christ called "Abraham's bosom". On the third day after His crucifixion, Christ ascended to Heaven (where Paradise was and is situated) and took all the OT saints with Him, including that repentant and believing thief.
Since the resurrection of Christ, the souls and spirits of believers go to be with Christ in Heaven, for "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (as already pointed out).
The souls of unbelievers go to Hades, where that rich man was already in torment. However, they must await the final Great White Throne judgment, and then they are cast into the Lake of Fire. These are certainly no matters to joke about, and the awful reality of Hell should make us weep for the lost and pray for their salvation.
There is no such thing as "purgatory", which is simply another hell: 'It is the same fire' says [Catholic] St. Thomas Aquinas, 'that torments the reprobate in hell, and the just in purgatory. The least pain in purgatory surpasses the greatest suffering in this life'. As one can see, this is a purely Romish invention.
Hope this helps some.

You and I are souls, we do not have souls. What does the Bible really teach about the soul?
Here are some Scriptures to examine:
Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (Adam became a person)
Leviticus 5:4: "Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these."
Leviticus 7:20: "But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people."
Ezekiel 18:20: "The soul that sinneth, it shall die."
Revelation 16:3: "And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea."
The Bible is very clear on what the soul is. It is a person, it can swear, it can eat, it dies(it is not immortal), and animals are souls.
Any soul that has fallen asleep in death, will be brought back to life when Jesus is empowered by his Father to begin the resurrection of the just and the unjust.-- Acts 24:15

They go to heaven or hell. After which Judgement Day is said to occur then those who were in hell will be sent to the Second Death which is the Lake of Fire.
2006 is just the current calendar it is not even the Jewish one. Plus man has existed many, many years before Jesus came so 2,006 years has no bearing on when God gives Jesus the signal to rapture His saints or when the Second Coming does occur and Jesus becomes the Head of the governments on earth.

All spirits leaving behind their mortal bodies will reside in a spirit world until the resurrection. Paradise for the righteous, spirit prison for the unrighteous.
