It sounds so pathetic, the poor thing,....I heard once that cats would do that due to the change in light???
Anyway, she does this off and on for 20 min. then she stops?

Our cat does that also. I think she just feels lonely and left out. We just speak to her and tell her to knock it off and she usually stops. They seem to sleep all day, but end up sleeping on the bed with us most of the night where it is warm. We a have two cats and only the female does that.

Not lonely. That's just part of the nocturnal behavior. Meowing is a way to signal territory. Also, she may see other cats outside and be having conversations with them. My cats do that too. I'm convinced they're planning parties for when I'm gone. LOL.

Ha, I have no clue. But don't worry, my cat does it too. Lately she's taken to walking around the kitchen meowing. And now she does it at all times of the day too. I was thinking that it's because she's lonely because we just took her away from our other cat and I'm told he's doing the same thing, which they never did when they lived together. Did you recently move, or separate your cat from another one?

I think that cats are always trying to communicate with us, humans. Like I have 1 cat which meows alot, to open the door for him, to feed him etc. and another who meows differently, sometimes when Im leaving the house, he does this moew that is different from "hunger" meows. And I have another which rarely meows, but when he does, has the most gentle and soft meow.
So I think your cat is just trying to tell you, don't sleep, time to play with me, You are out all day and it's night -time , so play with me?? LoL

my cats used to do that also when I had female cats it. It is her way of calling to you. You have to understand that to them we are there kittens so when you go to bed she can't find you and thinks you are lost so like a mother would call for her child she is doing the same to you. Just try calling her name and she should come running to you if that doesn't work. Pick her up and take you to bed with you I hope this helps.

If she's not in heat, she probably just wants you to stay up and be with her. I have never had a cat that was bothered by light changes, but it could happen I suppose. You can talk to your vet about it to be sure.
