I am 38 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At my last appointment I was 1cm dilated, 100% effaced and soft. I have been like this for 2 weeks now. I was told once you hit 100% effaced it wouldnt take long to dilate. Has anyone been like this? and for how long? My baby has already dropped and head down, the doc. can push on his head when he does an exam. Last time they thought I would go into labor in a couple of days and now it seems my contractions and everything have just completely calmed down and nothing is happening. Its funny because I went into preterm labor 2 times and they had to stop it and now that Im not taking anything nothing is happening. Anyway, what do you all think (I know your not doc. just want some experiences). Has anyone had this happen? Thanks for all your help!

Sounds like your going to be a Mommy soon. Congrats.
I was 38 when my son was born. He was 3 weeks before due date. I was there for my weekly stress test. And was contracting and not even feeling it. His heartbeat would go down every contraction. The doc is like " so, you want to have this baby today?" I thought he was joking. He wasn't. I was 4 cm dialated by then. Was in labor for 10 hours before they finally started the drip to induce. 12 hours later, he was born. Healthy, happy, 7lbs even.

I was in a similar situation as u are now but not exactly..I was having contractions and was already dialted to 2, this was at about 38 weeks also..They stopped my labor 4 times and sent me home..My baby was down and I was having contractions and pressure but not enough to cause me to go in labor I guess. Doctors like for pregnant women to come as close as 40 weeks as they possibly can..even though u are considered full term they want u to reach the maximum 40 *a lot can take place in 2 weeks*
When they stopped my labor I didnt have the contractions bad at all again after. I went home and walked a did a little brief jogging also had sex,,a lot..It helped my labor out a lot...I went into the hospital and delivered about 1 week later.I gave birth at 41 weeks but that was after i did all of my jogging etc at 39 1/2 weeks. All of these can help u out a lot to bring on labor. It will also be a much faster delivery..Good Luck!

I never fully dilated but was 100% effaced for about a week before I went into labor. I eventually had to have a c-section because I didn't progress past 7 cm (and it wasn't bad at all). Good luck!

You can never really guess about labor. My doc thought that I would have to be induced at my last weekly exam before my due date. It was a tuesday, due date friday and I was scheduled to be induced the following monday. But, wouldn't you know I went into labor tuesday night, was at the hospital about 1 am, and baby born at 5 30 am. You never know, you still have a little while yet.

I just had a baby and went through the same thing. Every woman's body is different. You should just wait for nature to kick in, but usually when things start to calm down, it won't be long thereafter you will have your new baby. Kind of like the calm before the storm!

Well, I was 1cm and 70% effaced for 3 weeks before they scheduled and induction, and I ended up with a C-section. Sorry I can't be much help!

I don't think this is too unusual. If you don't finish dilating on your own then they may need to do a c-section, but if you aren't in active labor and the baby isn't in any distress they will probably wait a week or so to see if you will finish dilating on your own.

I'm a mom of two 30 weeks pregnant babies come when they come no rhyme or reason to when or why it happens. You won't be long if the baby is a no show by 41 weeks most doctors will induce i think you'll have your baby SOON.
