Now, being born and raised in Los Angeles, I understand the problem. People say Los Angeles when they mean Compton, Venice, Santa Monica, Glendale, Gardena, Westwood - EVERYTHING. Its easier. Even people from the valley tell other people fro out of state they are from LOS ANGELES.

So, if you mean Los Angeles thats one thing. If you mean an area near Los Angeles close enough to be called Los Angeles by people who dont know any better, then thats a different thing entirely.

I think the snow in 1989 was not in Los Angeles County, and it was definetely not in Los Angeles, the city. But it was oflty close. I remember trying to get my mom to drive there.

Then just in Jan/Feb this year it snowed just as close in San Bernadino County right outside of LA county (maybe 30-40 min. from downtown LA. I cant remember the date, but you could probably google it - it was in the news. It was the same day that DC had a record high or something. It was newsworthy because it should've been hot in LA and snowing in DC.

Remember when the whole Global Warming conversation got heightened earlier this year, that was then.

It snowed in the San Fernando Valley (which is part of the City of Los Angeles) in 1989. I don't know if it snowed in downtown Los Angeles or the Los Angeles basin. Probably not.

I lived in los angeles for over 20 years and i don't remember seeing any snow.

It snowed in early February of 1989 but it only lasted until mid morning (in the San Fernando Valley at least). I was about 4 when it happened but it happened none the less.

Yes it has! When I was about 12 we woke up to snow in the Echo Park area of LA. It didn't stick and we were making snowballs when it quickly melted. Now that's IN LA; in the surrounding areas and foothills it snows every few years.

An ex-roommate of mine has snapshots which he took of their front yard in December 1947 when it snowed very lightly due to an extreme drop in temperature in most of the LA metro area (his house is in North Hollywood/Toluca Lake area).
I have also seen photos taken of the same time period from Glendale and Long Beach.
