I have a 16 month old male dachshund, and when he turned 1 years old we decided to get a female dachshund. So she was nine weeks when we got her. She has her vacinations all current. But Today I noticed the male trying to mount the female, and the female growled and got mad at him. We want to wait a cycle or two before the female has puppies. So when are females dogs sopposed to go into heat. Does the male dog know before everyone else when the female goes into heat? The dogs get along great but I want to wait a while to have a litter. The female is 7 months old now. So if anyone knows about this sort of thing please reply. My vet said about 9, 10 months before I need to worry about her getting pregnant with puppies. So what do I look out for? Thank you

It's best you wait until she is one year old or one year and a half is the best.
The male mounting the female has nothing to do with her heat or him feeling it before anyone else. This is normal dog behaves because he can tell she is a female. No need to worry he will calm down in time.

A female Dachshund can come in heat any time after six months, and yes it is normal for the female to growl at the male if he is aggressive, even when she is ready to breed if it is her first breeding. When they do breed it is wise to hold the female and support her back and her rear, and keep an eye on her mouth because she will turn and try to nail the mail in the face or the ears. You will have your hands full trying to breed Dachshunds if you do it right so neither of the dogs gets hurt...and you will also want to be home when she starts whelping the pups as dachshunds are notorious for breech births and puppies getting hung up in the birth canal. And she should be at least a year old before you breed her. Females will come into heat twice a year, usually every six months, and there are certain days on which they should be bred, which are usually the the ninth, eleventh and thirteenth day after they first come in heat.

dogs can go into heat as early as 6 months sometimes even earlier, and she can breed that age as well, and yes a male dog can tell before we do, cause the female will have a sent that a male dog can smell take her to the vet and see if she is in heat and then keep them apart if she is and the heat cycle can last about 20 days hope this helps

The male can tell when she first begins to emit pheromones, but well be fore she is in 'heat'..She should be kept away from the male when her vulva begins to swell, until it is back to normal size..It is impossible to give a time period for the first cycle, because, just as in humans, they are all different until they become regular..She will be able to breed about every 6 months..It is far safer, better for mom and puppies, if she isn't bred until the 'heat' following her second birthday...
the 'humping' is just a teenager trying to practice..

Because amorous females and males will find a way..it is far safest and sanest, to board the male during the female's 'heat'.

She could possibly become pregnant now, which would be unwise simply because she is too young to have puppies. You need to wait until she is fully developed herself, before you try breeding her. Talk to your vet about ways to prevent their breeding until the female is old enough.

The dog's heat cycle is in two phases: Proestrus and estrus. In proestrus, there might be bloody discharge. In estrus any discharge would be a dark brown. Both will last around a week. It's during estrus that the female is especially receptive to being bred.

dogs go into heat about 3 times a year. i dont think you should breed her till she is 2 years old so she doesnt have a hard time. i would also not let them be together because the female could get pregnant even tho she is that young.

Yes, your male doxie can know before you. They can sense it. There is no set time for a female to go into heat. But when she does, just keep her away from your male until she is finished. This may be irritating because your male dog will drive you nuts. good luck.

if he is mounting her, u should separate them till she is old enough. Male dogs can really act up if the female around them is in heat, they go just crazy because they can smell them. They will even go as far as pee in the house to leave their scent to attact her. So if he suddenly acts up (as dachshunds are stubborn, I know cause I have one and went through this--he was worse than my male miniature pinscher!) make sure you find information to understand why he is doing what he does so you can deal with the situation without making it worse. good luck

Hmm. Goldie is basically too girlie. How approximately Gold? Or Bronze? If he has any form of particular marking you could desire to call him for that. I knew a dachshund that replaced into named Strike for a diagonal white mark on his head. i think of 'Bronze' is the final one I got here up with right here.

animals can smell other animals heat cycles. also, the male is older and is ready to breed. the female was protecting herself from unwanted love. when she is in cycle she will be very willing and easy to breed.
