OK first you need to show some self control. that's your problem. You aren't that smart if you allow yourself to skip class like you just can't help it?? Come on. I don't buy it. You need to get in there, apologize to your teachers and ask them to give you a break and promise to stay at it. Prove your words and excel above everyone else, what would that do that would be so bad and why would you not want to do it if you can? God gave you a good brain. A lot of people are born with problems and they don't have a choice about how well they do, they have to struggle and can't get into college or get good jobs. You are blessed to have it easy . Be grateful, do the work and offer to help others that may need help because you are one of few and it would do you good to think about someone besides yourself for a change. Got it? You could also make a little money doing this if you like doing it. Good luck.

I know EXACTLY what you are going through.

I too was one of those, "this is insanely easy, why do it?" but now I am repeating a semester while all of my friends have gone on.

Trust me, just do it. What I do is I ask my teachers if I can have the assignments ahead of time (it helps to first get on the teachers' good sides). Most teachers, if you request to talk to them after school will do this. This way, you have more time to do other things. Like I will devote an entire night to homework for the week and then the rest of the week, nothing.

However, you have to prove to the teacher that you are responsible. You might want to try going a full two weeks without skipping. Don't worry, it won't kill you. Then tell the teachers the truth, that it's all too easy and if you could just have the assignments ahead of time, that would be great. Be respectful and don't whine. Don't make excuses either. Tell them that you were skipping and it's not that THEY are boring, but that the stuff is.

Many teachers will do this, but some might not. Those that don't you might just have to show up everyday for that class.

And if your school is like mine, if you miss a certain amount of days, they fail you unless you do credit appeal. Again, talk to your teachers about this. Make them a deal.

And to keep yourself from skipping, try mentally punishing yourself. If you skip, allow yourself no computers, tv, dates, friends, etc for that day. make yourself do the homework.

Again, I have been what you are going through and now am finishing out my senior year, even though I should have left LAST year. You don't want to do that. You don't want to stay behind. And you aren't the only one this happens to. I thought I was until I read your question. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to send me a message.

Best,

Sit in the front, and run your classroom. Ask questions to guide lectures the way you want them to go...teachers will love or hate you depending on how hard they want to work, either way you will get a better grade for less work, because it seems as if you are generally interested in the class.

This makes you a nerd, but you must learn to embrace being a nerd. I am a self proclaimed nerd...and so much cooler for it!

I would also suggest you talk to your guidance counselor about what options are available to you. You may not be aware of any alternative education programs that may be out there.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and do what you don't feel like doing. I have found that if you make a goal for yourself, and have all your decisions revolve around reaching that goal, than battling with yourself becomes a lot easier. If your goal is to go to college, or get a degree...and cutting more than 2 classes really decreases your ability to do that easily, than cutting is no longer an option. You will just go, whether you want to or not...or you will do your best to save those cuts for when you really want to use them.

Good luck.

One of two things is going on:

THING ONE: You're bored.

If you're in a school that doesn't know how to teach someone who is unusually bright, you're going to spend a lot of time being bored. You have three options:

1. Sit down with your parents and discuss a change in schedules, a change in schools, or other options that will give you more mental stimulation and waste less of your time; or

2. Develop coping mechanisms. Learn mental tasks you can use to accomplish things, even while it appears you're sitting in class listening to the lecture. Develop "tricks" to keep yourself interested in goings-on*. In short, find ways to deal with it; or

3. Engage the teacher. Make it clear early in the year that you ARE the best student, and that you're far ahead of the materials being taught. This won't help in all classes, but in many the teachers love kids like you, and will help you get into more challenging classes, or let you study on your own while they teach, or even let you out of class altogether in favor of other advanced activities (provided you ace the tests consistently.) This is, by far, your best option, and I encourage you to give it a shot.

THING TWO: You're lazy.

If you're bored, lots of people will mistakenly tell you you're lazy. But you might actually BE lazy, and unwilling to do anything about your problem. If you're lazy -- heck, let's call it "unmotivated" -- you're going to need to break that habit, and you should focus on getting yourself to finish the things you start, no matter how small or boring or painful.

Good luck.

*this wasn't from school, but when I had my second part-time job in a grocery store, I had to "face" the aisles -- which meant pulling all of the cans to the front edge of the shelves and lining them up. It sucked for everyone, and so we'd all throw five bucks in, get our aisle assignments from the boss (who didn't know about the wager) and first one done got the cash, provided the job passed boss's muster. In my first part-time job in a drug store, I often doodled during downtime, and my boss liked what he saw and had me make signs for various specials. These are really, really straightforward examples that work, if you're bored but motivated.

This sounds corny, but talk to your guidance counselor. You may be too far advanced for the classes you're taking, and they're just not challenging enough for you. Maybe they can test you and put you into a gifted program. I had the same problem, I didn't find it challenging at all. I ended up dropping out at 16, getting my GED at 18, ended up taking a few college classes now and then. I ended up alright, decent job, but I'd strongly advise, now a days, just deal with it and stay in school.

Go to class, be brilliant. If things get dull for you, plan a fantastic career, write a book, do mensa puzzles, think of brilliant new ways to make money. Show up every day. Do it one day at a time, just for today- I will go to school. You have gotten into just a bad habit and you can use that big brain to retrain yourself. Look into psychic stuff and weird odds and ends. Educate yourself beyond school...

You should give yourself motivation. Like reward yourself for doing good. (i.e: extra computer time, a candy bar, etc.) Another one would be think about the FUTURE. I know you'll regret this later if you dont come through and get all the education you need. If your smart, prove it to them.
