I find it interesting that guacamole or an avocado half will turn brown unless you keep the pit in it. Why is that?

ITS NATURAL OILS AND SOME ACIDITY IN THE UNFERMENTED PIT . (MUCH LIKE LIME/LEMON JUICE IN THE GUACAMOLE )
also when the fruit drops to the ground it is usually ripe so it splits when it hits the ground the pit is exposed and the natural takes over the meat and skin turn to compost and moisture to start the pit ( now a seed ) to start growing into a new tree !

I really don't think the pit has anything to do with whether or not the avocado turns brown. The discoloration is due to exposure to the air. Sometimes the acid in lemon juice or vinegar will help to retain the original color. That's why guacamole is generally green and not brown.

I do and that i come across that it rather works and, I shop lime juice on the marvelous and canopy the quac with plastic wrap. The air turns it brown and the pit / juice retains that from occurring.
