I really want some clam chowder - I have a can - and there is a date of November 2004 on it. I am not sure what that means. Does anyone know if it is ok to eat?

It's probably safe to eat if the can is not dented in or has a bulge on the top. Canned goods generally have a fairly long shelf life as long as the can is intact. If there is any indentations or bulges, however, get rid of it ASAP. Also, if you open the can and the soup doesn't smell right or there's foaming, it's undergone some kind of chemical change or reaction due to exposure to the air, and should be discarded. There could be a minute opening somewhere on the can. To be sure, call the company website and give them the date that's on the can, and they can tell you if it's safe to eat.

I'm pretty sure it does, otherwise why would it have an expiration date? In any event open the can, and if you see a black ring around the top then you definitely know its not good.

what you really want is three days in the hospital or just three days wishing you were dead. that soup is qualified as a science project now and on top of that shell fish spoiles fast and will kill you......

go to red Lobster and get some fresh catch.

Throw the can out NOW!!!...

I've known of friends who have 15-year-old cans of soup, and they say that's it's OK to eat it...I usually throw it out and sanitize the kitchen countertop immediately thereafter...

If the can isn't bulging, leaking, or rusted it might be OK, but I would definitely toss it out if I was you--I HATE food poisoning!! It isn't worth risking it in my eyes...

I'd throw it out. I don't eat anything after the expiration date.

Don't do it. They have already given a big lead time on it before that date.
