The spelling is Shih Tzu and it is of Chinese ancestry. Although people routinely mispronounce the name, the correct pronunciation is sheet zoo.

One day a Sht Tzu took a S H I T at a zoo and then they started calling them that. But the zoo said that if it wasn't for them then they would have no name. So they changed the spelling.
