I'll get right to the point: I had a baby five months ago. I am a breast feeding mom. My husband and I had sex right before he left for basic training two weeks ago. About four or five days ago, I had some light bleeding and cramps so I thought I was have a period but it stopped after two days. I'm not asking if I could be pregnant. That's a duh. But I was just wondering: if you are a breastfeeding mom, when did you have your first period after you had the baby and what was it like?

I still breastfeed. I exclusively breast fed for the first six months, breast fed on demand and stopped night nursing at a year. That is when my periods returned, once the night nursings stopped.
They came back just like they were before I was pregnant. We are down to only a 2 to 4 nursings a day.
Congratulations!! Good luck!

I breast fed both of my last 2 babies, just breast feeding nothing else and my periods returned within six weeks for both of them, I felt a little cheated as I figured I'd get a couple of months off. or until I'd finished feeding. I went straight into normal periods more or less.

I got it back when I was down to one feeding a day, which for me was when my daughter was 12 months old. My period was just like the ones I had before I was pregnant.

After I stopped breastfeeding it took two months before I had a period again. It was lighter than normal.

My daughter is 15 months old and I'm still nursing. I had one short period (about 4 days - short for me!) about 2 months ago. So far that's it - yipee! This totally rocks, don't you think?! If it were socially acceptable I'd nurse til she's 30 as long as I didn't get any periods! LOL

I got my period back when my daughter was 11 months old. I breastfed her for the first year. Towards the end I started letting up and weaning her off the breast to the bottle so my milk started to lessen. That is when I got it back. I think it came in smaller amounts.
