I think the thought of Heaven takes away some of the fear of death. To most, I think Heaven is a very comforting thought, picturing deceased loved ones in a nice place, anticipating going there to see them yourself someday, etc.

But, there is much more to Christian beliefs than a reward at the end of the line, or 'fire insurance'.

I think more to relieve their guilt. Fear of death could be another reason. Personally, I think when I die, my soul goes to a garage in Buffalo. I just hope that in some way, my body will be returned to the food chain instead of pickled and stuffed into an expensive box.

Nope. fears about what? I think heaven is a great place because the word of God says so. At least how He describes it!

I don't know why other people think what they think. I think Heaven is a great place because of what the Bible says.

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Psalms 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Isaiah 25:6 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, "Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation."

Heaven's good, but it's not great, that's why a second earth and second heaven need to be created because they have been stained by sin. Heaven by the sin of the fall of angels, and earth by the sin of the fall of man.

if you fear none but the Lord, what fear is there? whether people think that they'll get to heaven just because they're a "good person" but do not do His works... that's a different story.

Sure. I've stood beside too many dying people w/o faith but with a determination they will be in heaven to think otherwise.
