Controlling Your Thoughts Colossians 3:1-4
A thought can be happy, pleasant, sad, or depressing. It also can be tempting, the kind of thought that will cause you to question its origin.
As tempting thoughts bear down on us, we may find ourselves surrendering to them and falling into sin. Whether it is for just a moment or for months, tempting thoughts have a way of breaking down our resistance and causing us to rationalize away the action.
Everyone is subject to these tempting thoughts, both Christians and non-Christians. However, as Christians we can prevent these thoughts from lingering in our minds by knowing our position in Christ.
So, what is your position in Christ? If you are a Christian, Christ lives in you, and you are in Him. And if He is in you, then you should honor Him by doing what Paul urges in verse 2: "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth."
If you continue to think like you did before you came to know the Lord, you will never reach the full potential God has for you in this life.. Tempting thoughts will come your way. This is not a sin. But dwelling on these thoughts only breeds sin.
Remember, every action you take begins with a thought in your mind. "For as he thinks within himself, so he is" (Proverbs 23:7).

what he said was if you think this you have already sinned in your heart. I do not think He expected each of to be in contro of that. I for instance if I see an appealing woman get excited and think what I would enjoy and b4 I knew Jesus i would have prefered not to know that person was committed to someone else.
What Jesus does in the end is to help you with your stregth not to do those things that are wrong. Now if I know a woman is married I do not even get aroused, could be cuz I'm older but I think my relationship helps a lot cuz young single ladies still trip my trigger, and since they like me that could become a problem. I just control where I go cuz it seems to me Jesus is not so helpful at giving me power to obey Romans 13. Perhaps through prayer in the future. In His case it was not belief it was what He knew. As a counselor I can assure you that, thoughts can hurt you. PTSD would not be an afliction were this not true. Glad to see you are feeling better today it would appear when you feel emotionally poorly it affects your rational output.
Have a blessed evening.

Now thats what I call a sturdy question, a famous person for you! i think of that we are in a position to all administration our thoughts to three extent yet in no way cases, say in case you have been having it with a gruesome woman you are able to could think of approximately some thing nicer to end the pastime in an effort to communicate yet whilst it became a fully buaetiful woman you does no longer could think of of something in any respect, there are multiple situations which you would be able to argue the factor with, so i visit declare we are on top of problems with our bodies yet possibly no longer our minds.

"Ye can't keep the birds from landing in yer har, but ye can keep 'em from building a dang nest thar'."
If we should be "praying without ceasing," isn't a thought about lustfully taking advantage of one of God's children (or stealing them from their partner), or killing them, something you don't want God to be having to listen to? Prayer isn't just asking God for things. It's telling God what's on your mind, thanking him, telling him you're wondering about something and will be keeping an eye peeled for His answer....
"I want to kill that person" is a bad thought. You aren't bad because you had it, but you need to push it away, and change it to "that person has hurt me, and I will take that hurt to God, and ask that He help me forgive that person; also that He would show that person how he can do better (or comfort him if he's hurting people because he himself is wounded.)" Even if the offending party never responds to God's ministrations, YOU'LL be feeling better than you would had you harbored angry feelings.
"That person hurt me" or "I am very sad" is not a bad thought or a bad emotion. It's the truth. Jesus wept, and He is our example.

It's important to have a balance between self-discipline and spontanaiety. Emotions and thoughts are not bad in and of themselves, though the consequences on acting on some of them can be. A world of difference between thought and action, though Christians don't seem to think so.

St. Matthew:
"Consider the lillies in the field, how they grow. They toil not neither do they spin, and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these... Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things itself."

As the above lesson hints... the present moment is lost if you're THINKING about the future (or past).
