Is there a US ban on online gambling? When did this happen?

Congress snuck an amendment into a Port Security bill signed into law on Friday October 13th, making it illegal for US banks and financial institutions to process transactions with on-line gambling and poker sites. Some companies have been scared out of the US market and no longer allow US players. Party Poker, Titan Poker, Paradise Poker, Pacific Poker are just a few of the ones who have already banned or plan to ban US players. A few sites have taken a stand and have pledge to keep their doors open to US players. Check out the link below for an up to date list of sites worthy of your support. For me it is a matter of principle to keep playing poker and support the sites that have taken a stand against such is ridiculous and unjust law.

Who moved the rock and where the hell have you been hiding yourself? This is NOT news. Monkey-boy...I mean, sorry, Bush, signed a bill outlawing online gambling a few weeks ago. There has been talk of this for the past six months or so. Oh, and that bright thing in the sky is called "the sun."

It isn't a ban, its much weaker than that. It's still legal for Americans to play poker, some sites just wussed out and banned US players. But you are better off without Party. Their rake was REALLY high and didn't let people offer rakeback. http://www.ultimatepokerbankroll.com/article.php/internet-gambling-ban-poker-sites-status lists sites letting US players play and gives you some sweet Rakeback deals.

Ummm, yep last week, do a search online, find lots of articles about it. May not be "official" yet, but a lot of the companies are selling to others because of the announced ban, probably why yours is closed already.
