If this happens a lot, his food may be giving him gas. With my dogs, I found that chow that had any sheep or lamb products gave them monstrous gas. Currently I'm feeding them Purina Beneful, and the farts are minimal.

I asked 2 different vets this for my mini schnauzer and they said no. Pro-biotic is OTC supplement that helps in digestion. Like a vitamin that supports the good bacteria in the intestinal tract which gets rid of the bad that is causes the gas. For my dog at 20 pounds, the dose was 1/2 capsule morning and 1/2 capsule night. Massage and exercise was also recommended. Zantac was recommended if the tummy is hurting. 1 pill per day and you can split into a morning and nighttime dose. Even if your dog is more than 20 pounds I wouldn't give more than one zantac a day without checking with your vet. Good Luck. I also agree to make sure that it is not bloat and that it is just a upset digestive tract.

Don't give your dog anything that the doctor has not prescribed to him. The vet knows what is the best medication for your particular dog.

Yes, but if you have a large breed dog, consider calling the vet. I would hate for your dog to be bloating, and not know it. It can be fatal.
