i have scoliosis, im 15, ive known for 2 years, ive gone to doctors, and ive been through physical therapy, doctors say since im done growing a brace is pointless, and that it was bad enough to risk surgery....
.... last time i went to the doctor (bout a yr ago) about it they said i didnt really need to go back unless it got worse... ive been in ALOT of pain lately, ive been doing some exercies recomended by my physical therapist, when i was in it... and they havent help, i dont think my mom realizes how much pain i really am in, and NOTHING is working lately, and i think i need to go back to the doctor, but i cant, since my mom seems to think its not as bad as it is.... so basiclly: Ive been in soooooooo much pain, nothing has helped, i know i need to go to the doctor.... if they think i should get surgery, what do you think i should do?? i was lookin at some info bout surgery online, and it said less then 1 out 100 go wrong but still... should i risk it? [if the dr. thinks i should]

If you go to a really reputable and highly skilled spine surgeon then the risk is minimal BUT the surgery has a long recovery period and you really ned to listen to how long you will be unable to do anything at all, for you on;t have the surgery and then you are well------very long recovery and hospital time . If your Mom will not take you, talk to your Dad or other Family Member that can help-convince your parents that you need to go see a doctor. if you are truly in pain ,no need for it---Demand you be taken if not talk to a school counselor or nurse and they will talk to your Mom.

I too have scoliosis, was diagnosed when i was 12, and 2 months later i had to have the surgery. Its been 15 years now. Im having probs but its not from the surgery or the rods. But it does help! Definitely check into it. Talk to your mom and let her know how much pain you are in, and describe your pain to her. Good luck with everything! For me it was well worth having the surgery! Oh and i didnt have to wear a brace or have a cast on afterwards!

Check into a chiropractor or a massage therapist, especially before surgery. You've got nothing to loose if your in that much pain anyway... i'm a MT and i've worked on a lot of patients with scoliosis, it seems to help. I've seen so many patients worse after surgery... that should be your last option, in my opinion. But listen to your doctor!

I personally thinkyou need an other opinion. I fyou are ever going to have sugery now is the time to do so. Not wait until yuo are too old for your bones to heal.
Doctors ofter give advice based on how much time they have avialable rather that the patients condition or pain.
Most specialist will not see you without a recommendation and often a family doctor will not recommend it, with little idea of what';s going on.

Well I think your Mom needs to understand that maybe it isnt her body ,so how would she know what kind of pain your in.It sounds like you need to go back to the doctor and get more test to see if surgery is the answer .Maybe you can go to your nurse at school and maybe she can help your mom understand that you need a doctor

a girl i grew up with had the surgery and afterward she became a cheerleader. it did wonders for her. the bad part was the cast she was in for a LONG time. We nicknamed her turtle and we were all so happy when she was all well again. if she hadn't had surgery she would have never become the woman she is.

I am a chiropractor, and In my opinion, you dont need to go thru surgery. Seek a local chiropractor out and it will do wonders, without the invasiveness.
