There's a great Japanese place in TriBeCa called Ninja...the food is awesome, and the decor is made to look like a ninja village. It can be a little pricey, but they have a 5 course tasting menu for $50...you have to ask for the "secret menu" though. Here's the site:

The last time I was there they had a magician that came around to the table while we waited for dessert...may sound a little corny, but it's a lot of fun and the food is amazing.

Go to the Lemon Grass Grill on East 34 and 3rd if you want exotic. They serve Thai food. For fun, go to Serendipity's on 60th street, and make sure you try the Frozen Hot Chocolate. They have great food and desserts and they also have a gift shop that has great gifts, hilarious b-day cards, and for some odd reason, a transvestite Barbie.

Just walk down any street in Manhattan, esp downtown (34th and below) and you'll find all types of food...Indian, Thai, Japanese, Cuban, Armenian, Polish, Italian, Greek, etc.

Chinatown and Little Italy is in the same vicinity...it's always fun to have a meal out there!

Pipa is located at 888 broadway ave. The restaurant is elegant and very clean, or you can go to Lucy which is next door. I used to work at Pipa, trust me I recomended, oh and the desserts are exellent. The restaurant is located in the ABC carpet and home building at the lobby.
