Are you kidding? Girls with stretched ears are soooo pretty. It is really a beautiful thing, pssh. First off, don't listen to any one that obviously is giving their opinion, being rude, or obviously clueless to the subject. Yes, people ingnorant and very hateful towards body modifications like to flood people's questions...
Hm, while you people make decisions about what you do to your body, and what you do in your life is what you do, and what she does, is what she decides to do, she's obviously set about it, and dosen't even want to go that big, and in that case, is very reversable.
Awesome you decided to go to a professional...and stay pretty small.
Alright, I'm still at a very small size (3/4")..but I have been stretching them for a while, and slowly. When you wait the suggested time, (even better wait until your ears naturally loosen up, that happens after waiting longer than the suggested wait time), and get it done right, that brings minimal pain, and minimal scarring or damage.
I have never had my ears stretched painlessly, it always hurt, stung, burned and/or throbbed...not always at a high amount, but I always felt it, you know? It was never a nice feeling, I'd rather get tattooed than stretched. Of course, everyone feels it differently. It might be excrusicating pain for me, but not for you. As long as you see the piercer use lots of lube, and the correct gauge taper(one size at a time. and make sure that the use tapers. It is damaging not to, but some piercers do not.), it should hurt the least. If you don't wait long enough or skip a size, it could VERY painfully rip your fistula(tube of flesh that develops after getting a piercing(ie, what you actually stretch). I know there are many things to use to rub on your lobes to keep them healthy, and heal faster and strenghthen the elasticity. (check the link below)
Generally the 2 gauge (1/4') is considered the "point of no return to 'normal' size earrings. If you stretch them slow and properly, you have a great chance of them shrinking down if you want them to.
To reiterate my real answer, I would say, yes, they do hurt.
Go to your piercer, and have them answer any and all questions, ask the wait time, the process, proper care (and follow it), ask anything that you want to know. Make sure they seem competent and that it is a professional, sterile enviornment. Piercers are usually very willing to help you with and and all your piercing needs.
Good Luck, dolly. Ignore the ignorance and hatefulness of others.
(ps. I said I ws gonna stop at a 2 gauge, but I am about to get scallpeled to about an inch! fun!)

I don't understand why the people who don't like mods come into this section either.
But to your question:
It should not hurt. If it hurts you're going to fast. It will feel stingy and like there is a lot of pressure, but this should stay at the level of minor discomfort, not pain.
Go one size at a time, sometimes even less. The only exception to this is if you have regular holes (about 18ga) that are well healed and you've had for a long time. I went from 18ga to 14ga right away, no real stretching required. (mine were about 24 years old at that point)
6 weeks in between stretches, more when you get to the larger ga's (around 0 or 00 you need to start waiting a bit longer). clean with sea salt soak, nothing else. they will be a little tender for a few days to a week afterwards, but it's normal. once that goes away, you can massage your lobes gently to get ready for the next stretch.
I'm working my way up to 00ga for my first holes, then 2ga for my second. I think they look fabulous on girls!

I did mine with professional materials and as a piercer I often do this for other people. My ears are at a 00g, but you would probably want to go to a 2g which is about the size of a pencil eraser. It's approx 1/4" and is the point of no return meaning that after this, you will need surgery to fix your ears in MOST if not all cases.
It won't hurt too bad if you have someone who knows what they are doing and who is knowledgeable about the procedure. Most of the pain is a mild throbbing that can be subdued with Motrin.
If done incorrectly, you can experience infection, tearing the fistula can cause it to heal with scar tisse and will effect future stretches, so have them take their time (lots of bleeding and soreness) and a few other minor problems like swelling. Never allow the piercer to suggest skipping sizes, I've heard of some doing this, it's not good for your ears. Be sure to wait PLENTY of time between gauges (I waited 6-12 weeks between all of mine for anyone coming in) Generally, the pain isn't bad, but I will warn you now, everyone I know has experienced most pain going from 10g to 8g and then all guages after 0g are beyond horrible.
I won't tell you the warnings of your ears not stretching back, but I'm sure you know that. If you want more information and size charts, go to http://www.bmezine.com
Good luck to you.

You can get them pierced to a certain size, but i did my own, you just start small like a 16 gauge, and go bigger. Do not skip a size! And wait about 3 weeks or more to change the size. If you dont you will get scar tissue in your ear lobe and it will look gross. Use tapers to stretch them, it's the easiest and safest way! Good luck!

When I used to stretch my ears I remember the pressure, Id have my baby sister put in the size up...Make SURE you follow sizes or itll hurt like heck!!! I see that you say you dont want it that big but if you decide to go big definatly make sure you go to a tat parlor....I think the first earring you get is a size 16, so make sure you go to a 14...the gauges are done in even numbers...For me it honestly hurt I just grabbed hold of something while my sister would do it...Unless your into giving yourself pain I wouldnt do it myself Id have someone else do it...It's a lot of fun I dont have mine gauged anymore but cant say I wouldnt mind doing it again! Maybe even for the little sizes youll wnat to go to a parlor it all depends on the person, just make sure everythings clean and safe...I think youll like it

I have stretched my ears out three times now. My best advice is to go and talk to a professional. Ask questions, learn about what you're doing first because it can be quite an undertaking.
In my experience, start with a 14. Work that in and leave it there until it no longer causes you pain. When it slides easily in and out with out any problems, then you can move into a 12. I STRESS that you WAIT UNTIL IT DOESN'T HURT. Pain is our brains way of letting us know that something isn't right. So listen to your brain.
Another major point is cleanliness. It is imperative that you maintain proper cleanliness. That means not sticking nails through your ears ( no matter what someone might have done). Or constantly touching them. I think it is a universal impulse to touch freshly hewn peircings, but don't. Make sure that you wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap before you touch your ears. You do however need to keep a close eye on your ears, they tend to try to infect during a step up in the guaging process. Watch them and if they get red and icky, you should go back to the professional that you spoke with before and have him or her look at it. It never hurts to ask.
Also, when you decide to guage, don't let anyone talk you into guaging with plastic.. go with steel or titanium. Later on in the process you have the option of moving to plastic, but steel is easier to move in and out of the ear and is also easier (in my opinion) to clean.
Most of all, have fun with your guaging. It can be a painful process, but it's a rad one to go through!!

A friend of mine has his done, they are about as big as you can go with your earlobes still siting normally (pretty big, you could fit your little finger through). I asked him if it hurt and he said it kind of feels like a burning that kind of stings a bit. He said it aches a bit the next day but thats it. The first couple of times he had them stretched at a piercer but he does it himself now.

i have my ears stretched in my first holes (0's) and my second holes i am starting (12's) it doesn't hurt i wouldn't say. it burns somewhat but it's not too bad. the most important thing it to keep them clean and keep your hair away from them at first because they will kind of ooze. if you don't keep them clean they will start to smell and just be gross.
