You'll need to check with a tax advisor, but I'm pretty sure that you should pay taxes to both the State of New York and the State of Maryland.
You'll also need to check with the voter registration folks about living in New York State with a permanent residence in Maryland before you assume that you can vote in Maryland.

It does not matter what address you use. Where do you actually reside? You might think of that as where you sleep at night. If that is in NY then you are liable for NY state taxes. One other thing. non-residents of NYC still have to pay NYC tax if they work there. If someone at NYC tax dept sees a maryland address they may begin to wonder...
Be honest. It isn't worth it to do otherwise.

yeah. In fact theres lots of people who do it. Live in Jersey, commute to NY. Here people work in Ontario, and live in Detroit. You may have to pay a city tax for the city you work in though. But you'll get most if not all of it back on your refund. Not all cities do this but where I work I pay city tax.

It's been done. It's illegal, but I don't see how they will catch you. I assume you don't have a car. If you leave it registered in MD be very careful about your insurance. If it gets stolen or in an accident in NY you will have to explain why it was there and you may be guilty of insurance fraud if you lie.
