I would be awed by the gift, but some might not be.
Good idea, though. Maybe you should somehow give them an opportunity to pick which organization to donate to?

I think this is a good idea, but the the recipient think so? Otherwise I would give them a very nice card enclosed wth a gift card for a smaller amount then usual, and then donate the rest to a charity. Most churches this time of year would welcome a donation. Also, I enjoy making some beautiful homemade items to give as gifts, they are gifts from the heart. I make homemade fudge, cookies candy, and put together candy cups in some very pretty Christmas cups, so everyone gets a gift. Have a Very Merry Christmas!

This is a fine answer to your question. Do you think the recipient will be o.k. with this offer/gift? What do you get from him/her as a Christmas gift? You may want to make an offer of donating to charities for gifts this year (you and and recipient). In this way, you will not feel badly if you get a gift and he/she gets a card saying "X Dollars have been donated in your name to Charity Y"

have no idea myself. Receiving n giving stuff you don't need can be a pain rather than gain. All my family n friends agreed not to exchange gifts. Many of us who have everything don't find the gifts of any use, so we have to give them to the one who give us something else, n so the circle gets complete. ridiculous !! Just doesn't make much sense at all. Except the shops cash register. But we all go out for a great Christmas meal and have a super time together !!

trouble with that is that it's a gift to some one, it's not like your giving away your presents. Don't mean to cheese you off, but the important thing is to release something you want to bless them with and let go! Charitable gifts are gifts but to other folk.

As long as the organization is one that the recipient is actively involved in.
Otherwise, I suggest getting theater tickets or concert tickets you both can enjoy.

You can't go wrong with a box of Godiva! Or a single exquisite ornament (like waterford). Both are from around 25-50 dollars, but have maximum impact.

fleece blankets are always nice... make a tie one by buying 2 pieces fabric at a fabric store equal in size... cut 1 inch wide slits on all 4 sides and tie the 2 layers together...
its easy and everybody that gets them uses them!!

Don't do that, however noble it might be. Go to a craft fair and get a decorative wreath or something like that.
