Your hair sounds a lot like mine. You'll be able to get your hair to look good, but it's going to take a lot of work (and time and money).
First, get a good haircut, which will make it a lot healthier. I got layers, they work for almost everyone and are easy to maintain. Second, don't buy cheap shampoo and conditioner. You can go to Sally Beauty and buy the Ion Straightening shampoo and conditioner for $4.99 each, which work very well. Invest in a good straightener. You can get a good one at Sally's for around $40. When you straighten your hair, do it in layers and sections, or else it won't come out right. Unless you have really oily hair, don't wash it everyday, it's very drying and ends up being more work than necessary. Last, there are two styling products I swear by, Head Rush and After Party, both by Bed Head. Head Rush is a shine spray and After Party is a smoothing cream. Both leave your hair shiny, smooth, silky, and frizz-free without weighing it down. They range in price from about $15-$20. It's a little pricey, but they last forever and are so worth it. You can find them in salons like Trade Secret. More info on them here: http://www.tigihaircare.com/us/products/
Hope all this helps! Good luck!

Had the same problem. Later I realized that my hair needed a lot of conditioning, but I wasn't washing it all out. Rinse, rinse, rinse when you shower and then don't do anything to it! Don't brush or comb or anything. You can buy something called Anti-frizz at the drug store. After it air dries just put a little tiny bit of that in, but not too much or you will have grease city. I have crazy insane curly red hair and I never kept it down when I was younger because it frizzed. I tried to straighten it all the time but that was not the correct approach. You can't fight it, you have to give in to what it wants to do. Now everytime i go out I hear how gorgeous of hair I have and ppl always want to touch it because it's curly and not fried straight.

I have big curly hair and if i don't use a deep conditioner at least once a month and use mouse daily when i do my hair curly it is crazy frizzy and puffy. so i use suave mouse and put it in when its wet and let it dry naturally it really helps alot i also don't wash my hair every day cuz it makes it even frizzier

Use Frizz ease (I don't know if i spelled it right) products. They deffinitly help. So much so that they should have me & my mom as before & after models!!!
About how to wear it...
Bangs usually backfire. You'll have way more bad days then good no matter what you do.
Layers are alright if you go to a good stylest you knows what they're doing. & speak up there. Let them know where you get the biggest poofness & whatnot. When they layer it, ask them to "chop" the ends. It's not quite even then, but it helps with it laying right & not as much poof.
Wear you hair in one of those "monster" claws. OR a headband.
Poneytails can be cute too. A loose ribbon or scarf at the base of your neck could work too. Try changeing up your part.
Tips on manging you mop...(sorry if that offended you)
Never shower before bed...any dampness makes it way worse.
Towel or Air dry you hair.
Also try to do your style for the day while its still damp.
If you wish to accentuate your curls, try the crunch or scrunch spray in the Aussie?(puple bottle w/ kangroo) line.
Keep your hair in good healthy conditions. Split ends & such really accentuate any bad things.
Leave in conditioners help to make it not as "big"
A good detaingler after your shower, before you dry or do your hair helps. even if you don't have to much trouble with knots.
(frizz ease has a wonderful leave in conditioner/detangeler).
While shapooing or conditioning, start to apply at roots then downwards. massaging each section sepretly (top/middle/bottom). Not just one big lump on top.
In humid wearther, use a product that is designed for those types of conditions.
Weekly at first, then monthly, or whenver you feel you need them hot oil treatments helps. go to a beauty store to find, or if none around, look in the hair/beauty section that has alot of products for "colored" people. Even if your white. Just don't get the strogest thing you see in that section!!!
Have fun with your styles. Don't assume that just because your hairs a certain type that you can only do certain things with it.
I don't want to take up to much space here. If you need more tips, contact me. Also do so if you want pics of how much difference just one of the frizz ease products makes!!! hope I helped

My hair is naturally curly so I know where you are coming from. These days they make a number of hair care products that will help tame that mane. Friz Ease works well. They make a shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment that work good in combination if your hair is that frizzy. They have specialty types fo curly, straight, wavy, etc. Avoid hair care products like gels, mousses and hairsprays with a HIGH percentage of ALCOHOL & BUTANE. DON'T use petroleum or silicone based products. Make sure too keep your hair moisturized. That doesn't mean using heavy products that will make your hair greasy or oily. Lay off the straighting iron for a day or two. Over doing it will cause more damage then good. If you have a stylist go to them for help in maintaining your hair. For more ideas type in frizzy hair in your search window. It can lead you to sites and hair care products that will help you out. Good luck.

Learn to live with and love your curly hair! So many women want it and will never have it.
Wash only every third day, and condition very well when you do.
Deep condition once a week.
Use a good anti frizz serum every day. Rub a little between your palms and smooth through your hair, using your fingers to help define the curls.
If you want more curl definition, rub a little bit of hair wax between your hands and work with small sections to define the curls.

well thats exactly what i had to do like 2 months ago but bcuz i dont hav time to dry my hair in the morning, i shower at nite and then the next morning i straighten my hair. i also use herbal essences dangerously straight shampoo and conditioner which makes my hair silky and not frizzy at all and really easy to straighten. you should use that stuff for your hair and mayb even the spray stuff cuz i use that once in a while too

you can use frizz ease anti frizz syrum, or pay 30 bucks for maxis beyond straight formula. that works well, even when it's wet outside, but it's temporary. hope that helps. Also umm, the maxiglide iron works extremly well i'm love with it. so try that, you use it once, unless you wash your hair then you obviously have to do it again, but it's great
