Potatoes can help, but you shouldn't go on an all-potato diet.
Try keeping a food diary for a week. Find out how many calories you are eating - perhaps you are having some stress or other issue keeping you from eating normally. Then go see a doctor, and show them the diary so that they can make sure that there is no serious cause. There probably isn't.
Are you exercising? You might try doing a mixed program of weight training and cardio (like running/walking/biking/swimming). That will help you build some muscle, if you aren't already active. If you gain weight through exercise, you'll be healthier long term. Like it or hate it, this is the body you have, and you'll look and feel best if you are healthy.
Eating nothing but potatoes (or even better, french fries!) may put on weight, but I'm guessing that you want to look healthy afterwards, not just skinny with love handles and a fat tummy.

The ideal weight for someone your height and age is 106 lbs. You could gain a few pounds without any problem. In looking over the answers to your question I was amazed at the variety of misinformation. Potatoes are a good source of carbohydrate and calories. Personally, I would not advise you to start eating French fried potatoes or potato chips because of problems involved with the frying fat.

Anything can help you gain weight if you eat enough of it. Be careful with french fries though, there are better ways of preparing potatoes than deep frying them in smoking oil. Try cutting potatoes into 1cm slices, put in a pan and pour in cream, top wih cheese, herbs and salt, and bake for about 25 minutes. About as calorific as french fries, but a whole lot tastier.

It is a little under. Just don't over do it. potatoes , spaghetti, or any pastry will aid you in gaining weight. but you need to just eat More of the healthy foods.
A good breakfast, good dinner, lite supper. Eat veggies, fruit, and nuts and plenty of salads .
Foods like lean meet, fish, small pieces of chicken, seafood. fruit drinks will help.

Yes, you would gain weight. Potatoes are carbs and carbs give you energy and help you gain weight. I would definitely eat something else besides potatoes. You need all the food groups. Just eat more carbs than vegetables.

umm...ok listen to this and beware. please...my friend died last week because he ate a rotton potato and e-coli grew in his body. He was only 19 years old. so a potato diet doesnt really sound appealing to me at all.

I think you weigh this weight because of family genes. Do not try to gain weight.
