I just got my braces tightened for the first time and it hurts so freakin bad. I have already taken pain medication, but it does seem to be helping much. Is there any way to ease this horrible PAIN?

Omg, I'm so sorry for you. I just got my braces off...three years of torture, I tell ya.

1. Try headache medicine. It'll ease the pain for a few hours so you can concentrate on other stuff.
2. Did your orthodontist give you a little plastic thing to chew on? That helps sometimes, I've heard, though I've never used it.
3. Don't talk too much. And don't clang your teeth together. It HURTS.

The pain usually goes away maybe 2-4 days after the appointment if you're really unlucky. If you're lucky, it'll be gone in the next day or two, so hang in there. Do something else while you wait for the pain to go away. Remember, anything that helps keep your mind off of the pain...:)

Unfortunately, really the only thing that you can do is take pain medication! Switching to a different pain medication might help. Ibuprofen has been shown to work well. You might want to try 800 mg ibuprofen (the prescription dose) providing that you are able to take ibuprofen. You can take this dose every 6 hours. It should help and you should feel better in the morning!

Ibuprofen, warm salt water rinse, and a nap.
