I suspect I may have a parasite (maybe, maybe not). I did have a colonoscopy several months ago and the doctor said everything was fine (the reason had nothing to do with anyone thinking there was a parasite). My question is, does this pretty much rule out the possibility of a parasite?

Thanks in advance.

well heres the thing: I got mono over 2 years ago, and ever since then I feel like my health is on a downward spiral. Nobody gets mono that long. Im really fatigued and lately have some very weird abdominal and back pains that seem to move around. Whats weird is that when the pain is the worst, my fatigue goes away and is replaced by a feeling of restlessness. I don't know what's going on and I have yet to find a doctor willing to help.

Yes if the parasite was there at the time of the colonoscopy. If you are talking itty bitty hookworms they probably would have been seen. If you are talking a full grown egg laying tapeworm ten feet long and almost as fat as your colon then it would be so obvious that the camera would be bumping into the worm on its way up.

A colonoscopy goes all the way up your large intestine but a sigmoidoscopy only goes into the lower end of the colon. Neither shows your small intestine. But a large tapeworm would have segments of eggfilled worm sections going all the way out and that would be tough to miss no matter what.

Examining a stool sample is the usual way to find those parasites and is easier and faster than an internal exam.

A colonoscopy would only show any parasites that are living in the colon (large intestine). But if the parasites are in your small intestine, you wouldn't be able to tell by a colonoscopy. What symptoms do you have that makes it seem as though you have a parasite?

A friend of mine has had a parasite in her intestines - they found it through a stool test. She had a colonoscopy too but they found the parasite with the stool test. Good Luck!

it is a posibillity that you could have these diseases called Chrons and Ulcerativecolitis. but the doctor should have seen that in the colonoscopy. you could have also gotten some kind of fecies and it could have turned into ecoli. did your doctor rub a white little paper up against your butt? if not you might want to mention it, because that is how you tell what you might have. if you are having bloody bowl movements, then that could be a couple of things. you might need to go to a special doctor, a gastronologist.

something will show up... then they'll check the situation out further.

parasites in the digestive system overall will show up in any check up involving the digestive tract and bowels.

if you seek further help do ask.. they have tests to check those things out and give it a second glance to say the least.

Maybe you have chronic fatigue syndrome.

I have been taking a supplement called threelac and it seems to help with my stomach pains and fatigue.

Do a search for threelac on yahoo and you'll get plenty of results. Although it seems expensive, it is worth it.
