Which lasts the longest? Are some dogs allergic to certain metals? My dogs are already microchipped, but I still want a tag on their collars.

Stainless steel is a safe bet. It is usually not one the animals are allergic to and it doesn't tarnish or rust

I know sometimes brass tags are not truly brass, and the coating wears off, however, brass usually looks better. Stainless Steel is noncorrosive, and more durable. I'd stick with stainless steel.

I would go with stainless steel. I have had one of my dogs tags for about 15 years it hasn't rusted or scrtched as bad as the aluminum ones i've tried. Don't know about brass.

Plastic engraved is very durable. Comes in all kinds of colors and shapes. The name and number turns out white against a color tag. They don't clang like metal tags do either. Vet's offices have order blanks usually sitting on their counters. I think the company is called Safety Pet. They have an on-line order website too.

aluminum. it's harder, it won't rust, and it's extremely hard to break. brass will also work but it's very likely to bend or chip. stainless steel will just rust. aluminum is definitely a good one

They're all good tags. Just make sure they're engraved properly (not etched at the surface) and they should last forever.
PS: Good for you for microchipping and hanging tags on your dogs' collars! If more folks would do this there would be more happy reunions between lost dogs and their owners.
By the way, make sure the microchip is registered so that it can be traced back to you in the event your pup gets lost.
