Is it possible to find out if a person is staying in the USA legally?

complications are that, the person is staying with a relative of mine. She claims she is here on a tourist visa,which was not the story I got when that person first arrived to the U.S.

Yes, The social security office is supposed to be able to verify citizenship by mail but good luck, the system is totally broken.

Not without being a snoop or a private investigator.

Or if you happen to find out about an illegal in some other way, you should report them. Like anything will happen, but at least you would be trying.

Just hire a private detective to do a back ground check

Yes. Ask them for photo ID proving they're a resident of the U.S. If you're still not sure go to a police station and tell them your circumstances and ask them if they can check if they're a citizen.

Yeah, call the cops and tell them you think you may know of an illegal alien and tell them to chem 'em out. If they are not legal, they are a criminal, breaking the law, and the police should arrest them and kick them the hell out.

.The cops will not do anything unless she is breaking a city, county, or state law. I doubt the Feds would do anything unless she is caught up in a sweep of illegals.
Run into the house yelling Border Patrol is coming and see her reaction.

casually mention that the immigration officers are in town rounding people up. If they run, you'll have your answer.
