Yes depresssion can make you gain weight with me whenever I get depressed I either eat or don't eat but to not be so depressed I take an anti-depressant to help me out and it was a lifesaver for me. But if your trying to lose weight because of your depression don't turn to any type of pills talk with a therapist or a friend or possibly your doctor and see what would be the best for you. See all anti-depressants have side effects they all say it has this and this but not everybody have symptoms every body reacts to it differently. So get on anti-depressants to see if you can lose weight first you need to do is take care of your depression and then if your still eating alot and gaining weight talk with your doctor or a therapist and see what the best method for you would be. Turning to pills is bad it can turn into a bad addiction and that's the last thing you want to happen. So do what you think is the best and i I hope this info. helps you out. One of the classic symptoms of depression is any change of 10% of body weight in a short period of time.... say a couple of weeks. That can be a gain or a loss. Unfortunately if you gain weight was a depressed person, it is not as easy to lose the weight. The anti-depressants don't do it. They just make you feel better about yourself, and then you have to do the work related to losing the weight. Equally unfortunately, if you have lost weight during a depressed episode, it is far too easy to regain it.

Depression can make you lose or gain weight depending on the response of your body. In most people the feeling of depression causes your body to produce cortisal. Which causes you to gain weight usually around the belly button area. Also some people when they get depressed lose there appetite and dont eat like they normally do. so they lose weight. if your thinking about taking anti depressents to lose weight dont. they wont help. if you want to lose weight then go on a healthy diet and perform some type of cardio.

Sorry, no "typicals" here. Some people with depression gain weight...some lose weight. Medications vary...some do increase weight dramatically...some cause loss of appetite, with weight loss as a result. Everyone is an individual and so is the response to medications! Good luck!

People may either lose or gain weight as a result of depression. These drugs, too, will augment weight, ie your eating behaviour.
Don't rely on cursory and anonymous advice from this forum for your well being particularly where drugs are employed. Bite the bullet and get professional, personal help and follow up.

It would depend upon how you deal with your depression. Do you eat more or are you less active? If so then you could very well gain weight. I have used wellbutrin and lost weight on it. I also know other people who have lost weight with this medication

I never gained weight after I started on my anti-anxiety/anti-depression meds. Your physical health is not measured by your weight alone. Go on the meds if you and your doctor think you need them, and continue to exercise and eat healthy. I find that physical exercise helps not only with my physical health, but also with my mental health (I generally feel emotionally uplifted after working out).
