That's exactly why my family doesn't go to a "church". My sister is a huge hypocrite. She tells me that it is alright to smoke and drink and hang out in bars acting like a hoochie and say g.d. every other word. Yet if I say "Oh lord." about anything she attacks me by saying that I shouldn't say that and all this kind of crap. I just don't find it very honest going to an organized religion church. I can worship right here in the comfort of my own living room if I wish. But here in the Bible Belt people act like if you don't get up and go to church every Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening that you are a heathen. Well, I'd rather be a heathen than a lying hypocrite. Because those same people that are the first ones in the church door on Sunday morning were the ones closing down the club Saturday night.

same thing happened to me, the preacher at the time, wanted me to stop singing in the church because I smoked, but I didn`t hide the fact I smoked, some smoked and hid it, and he never said anything to them about singing, lol I asked about the over weight thing too, and he said some people have sickness that causes that, but in that church , that wasen`t the case, this is my thought on it,and the Bible says this..Its not what GOES IN that destroys the temple,BUT WHAT COMES FROM THE HEART,that defiles the temple....I know my heart, and I know it loves GOD. Not everyone will see eye to eye on things, If your not being taught right where your going, go somewhere else.

Yep. I had to hear the same comments when I was smoking. My in-laws were all on the, shall I say, heavty side. They put smokers down for not treating their bodies like a temple, at the same time they were all almost 100 lbs overweight. I did eventually quit smoking for my health. They're still fat.

I agree that it is definitely hypocritical to tell you that you were sinning because you smoked as they popped another chicken leg in their mouth. I've been taught that God does want us to take care of our bodies, in every way, shape, and form. We are not perfect and never will be, so I don't think God will send you to Hell for smoking a cig. He just wants us to try to follow His laws. Those people were wrong in judging you, because that's not their job. Their job is to love and lead by example. Don't worry about them, just do what you think is best.

Actually, the preacher at the church I used to attend gave a sermon on physical fitness being required by the Bible, as part of caring for "the temple".

Wait until you get older, and overweight, and have kids who smoke. You judge, they judge. Crap!
Anyways, old people say things to say things. Give them a break and some respect. Talk to them. They are people, and most are good people.

So what's your point, that there's hypocrisy in the church? Of course there is, but you can't worry about someone else. When you die, God is not going to ask you about sister so-in-so. He's going to ask you about YOU! So you repent and get it right because we all have to see God for ourselves!

Looking for hypocrisy in the church is like looking for a dog in a kennel. Yeah, it's hypocritical. It also seems silly to me to worry about it, since our bodies are just so much compost-in-waiting and our souls are eternal.
