Wasn't it sheer suicide? What's the difference between lying on train tracks and letting the Romans nail you?

I think several other people already said the right answer here, but I also don't see the need for all the hostility. I thought this was actually a pretty good question. There's nothing wrong with a little academic discussion.

The Bible doesn't say that suicide is a sin. People infer that suicide is not in God's will and so they consider it to be a sin on that basis. As to what Jesus did, He laid down his life as a sacrifice for all who will believe on Him. It's like if you were crossing the street and about to get run down by a truck and Jesus ran up and pushed you out of the way and got run down instead. I don't know about you, but when I think about that I want to live the life that He has given me in a way that honors my Savior.

Suicide is a sin, because you do not own your life. You are just a caretaker of your body, mind and soul.

Christ's death was prophesied and it had to be fulfilled to redeem all the sinfulness of the world.
Christ was like the gazillionaire who paid up all our debts to our creditors to save us from bankruptcy.
Christ was the sacrificial lamb because His holiness, humility and obedience was pleasing to God. And also to prove that there is life after death through His resurrection and ascencion to Heaven.

There's a huge difference between killing yourself (your body is a temple of the Lord) and God's Son not preventing His death. God wanted Jesus to die for our sins, because then we could spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

Why is Suicide a SIN, since Jesus Christ didn't do anything to prevent his death?

Allowing ones self to be killed in place of another is NOT suicide.

A courageous person would understand that immediatly!

When a condemned prisoner is walking to the table to receive a lethal injection that will kill him, does he bother to try to escape? Guards surround him, just like guards surrounded Jesus. But the thing is, He went voluntarily because He knew He was the sacrifice that would provide salvation for our sins. He knew this because God sent Him for that specific purpose. It was not suicide, it was submission.

These people are SELLING you a story that they have SOLD themselves. Every Sunday they go to church to get RESOLD. Their 'ancestors' have had about two millenia to figure out answers to 'tough' questions like this. They killed each other over them. Some of them would kill us now for not just 'TAKING A TELLING.'
Of course Jesus was commiting suicide. But He knew that He was coming back, no matter how they weasel around it. It's like playing Wackamole, if you try to knock one (of their reasonings) down, another one just pops up. It doesn't even have to be consistent.

a person who commits suicide takes their own life whereas Jesus was martyred, which fulfilled scripture and saved us from the penalty of all the worlds sins. Jesus was a non violent person and how do you propose that one man could have escaped the Romans and even his own people wanted him dead?

Because he was being persecuted not putting himself on there.

He was dying for the sins of man so that all we have to do is ask forgiveness and we can then walk with Him in Heaven.

Are you asking this just for the sake of a spritual belief argument or do you really want to know?

Read the Bible or talk to your pastor if you really don't understand the difference.

Jesus didn't nail Himself to the cross.
Romans did.

His murder was premeditated by others. Suicide is planned by yourself.

Suicide is murdering yourself.
