Are all 'sins' equal? Not hardly. Some carry the death penalty, while others just get you shunned. I am against bashing Gays. Or Christians. Or atheists. Or overweight people. Gluttony is NOT the only thing that causes overweight. Some people have glandular problems that cause their obesity.
And I don't believe anyone is "going to hell" for their sins simply because I don't believe there is any such place, except in the minds of some people. Of course, the Dark Age "Inquisitions" and certain prison camps have been pretty darn good imitations. Not even all Christians believe in such a "torture chamber". Yes, I suppose God does know his Word is word, but not all Christians understand it the same way.

All sins are equal in the sense that one sin will disqualify a person from entering Heaven apart from the salvation available through faith in Jesus. But all sins are not equal in God's eyes because for one thing a person can commit a sin unintentionally and God knows the difference between making a mistake and being in willful rebellion.
As to why gay people get bashed more than others, that's just a distorted view point propagated by the media because anything that's "Gay!" gets into the headlines. If you go to an average church and listen to a sermon it's very rare that a Pastor will be speaking about homosexuality. Usually that subject only comes up when it's included in a passage like in 1 Cor 6 where it's mentioned in a long list of other sins.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
If they are talking about sins they will much more likely be talking about adultery or fornication or about uncontrolled anger and gossip and slander since those are the sins that are more common among people who go to church.

Right now the Gay Agenda is pushing their views to make gay marriage legal. they are trying to tell people that homosexuality is a choice. They are claiming it is ok & good & an acceptable, alternate lifestyle.
If you study Scripture, you will see that this mindset was prevelant when G-d took serious action against other societies who thought this way.
Yes, sin is sin is sin, & no sin outranks another sin. However, the consequences of sin are not always equal. Some sins have more drastic consequences. Homosexuality has very serious consequences not only on the people who practice it, but to those who casually teach others that it is ok.
And, you are right. Obesity or lying or smoking are just as sinful as anything else.

Not all sins are equal. There are venial sins and capital sins. Gluttony is one of the Seven Capital Sins. It is NOT a sin to be homosexual; it is a sin to practice homosexuality as is any type of immoral behavior.
The Seven Capital Sins are:
1. Pride
2. Covetousness
3. Lust
4. Anger
5. Gluttony
6. Envy
7. Sloth

Absolutely, positively, ...wrong! The Sin de Jur which we bash does change as you so astutely suggest.
However, not all sins are equal. One is not.
Matthew 12:32
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

I don't "bash" anyone. I say that homosexuality is a sin, but I don't hate homosexuals, and homosexuals will only go to hell if they don't accept Christ. Gluttony is also a sin, and the same thing goes for them. If they don't accept Christ's free gift, then they will go to hell, same as anyone else.

In addition to being deemed a transgression from the Christian/religious viewpoint, homosexuality is a cultural taboo, while gluttony is quite acceptable culturally.

Sins are very different from each other-things God hates or detests or something else-but any sin deserves Hell. Unless, of course, you have accepted that Jesus has paid for your sins and you will go to Heaven. Then you still should try to follow God's instructions, but you will not go to Hell for sinning.

Because in all honesty, no other sinner is as proud of their sin as a gay person (I'm referring to those who have come out). A glutton is usually ashamed of their eating habits, one who has too much pride will deny it even exists, etc.
But a gay person will stand and tell you how proud they are of being gay.

Because people who eat too much don't make for a very useful target. Gotta drum up that money, so they gotta find the one best target for their venom. I talked to someone about this once. She thinks being gay is the worst thing possible. I guess it's okay to rape and kill a little girl, but if it's a little boy we're gay and going to hell.
